  • HS Point Guard

On the locker room show tonight it sounded like Coach Grant was pretty positive we'd sign a HS PG.

He mentioned that Murry and Kyles are more 2-3 guards, and that we need another PG.

Who would you like the most? "Silky" Johnson?, "Twanny" Beckham?...

I'd go with Beckham. He's at a good Prep and he's 6'5" which doesn't suck.

how about both. Looks like we have the schollies to go around. I pray for Mantas though, that is just unfortunate.

I probably lean towards Johnson, but would be thrilled with either him or Beckham. We probably have a much better chance with Beckham. I don't think West will be playing D-1 ball for a couple of years.

Wouldn't Mantas still have his schollie, even though he had to sit out because of the knee?

Johnson and Beckham both mentioned as combo guards, not true point guards. Johnson stats seem to indicate being a better shooter, but I have to go with Beckham out of the 2, but I have a gray area if a 6'5" point guard can be as quick as we need him to be.

This says we have offered Beckham:

It has been mentioned that Kyles is playing the PG positon more, and that Murry has also, but doesn't seem quite as much as Kyles.

The fact that Kyles is playing more point that Murry may have more to do with their high school teams that their natural abilities. Murry is the tallest player on a team that starts 5 guards, so I'm not sure anyone can gauge what his natural position at college is by how that offense operates.

At least both Kyles and Murry may be options in the future of playing some point.

Mantas would still be on scholarship unless it was ruled that it was a career ending injury. In which case, he can still get his school paid for but wouldn't take up an available 'ship for the team.

Maybe a PG we should look at is Karon Burton, a Philly guard. He is suppose to be a pretty exciting player. Only 5'8", but a dynamo in the lane, and can shoot.
