yes, the article said he was injured most of his time at Georgia

247 currently has Jaykwon Walton listed as the #5 JUCO recruit in the country.
Welcome aboard young man. And good luck to you and all our new players. Interestingly the above article says he had injuries at Georgia. That may have led to his numbers at Georgia. GO SHOCKS.

Maybe, but shouldn’t he prove he can play before we give him that role in the rotation? We have at least 6 players (6’3 to 6’7”) who are listed as a 2 Guard. We only have Abbide who is listed 6’9” and a rim protector at the 4. A little competition and depth at the 4/5 is important. Jaykwon, at 6’7 and only listed as 195 lbs. (which from his videos looks generous to me). He isn’t a 4 any more than Jalen Ricks is.

Are you suggesting that he had attitude issues which contributed to his lack of playing time (in addition to the injuries)?

I found this preview of top juco teams from last year. Here is what it had to say about Walton:

-Jaykwon Walton, 6’7, 205, redshirt sophomore, G/F, Columbus,GA, Power 5. Jaykwon, a University of Georgia transfer, may be arguably the top junior college prospect in the country at this moment. Jaykwon possesses all the tools needed to become a great player at the next level. He is a true three level scorer with elite playmaking ability. Jaykwon is truly positionless as he can play the 1-5 on the offensive end, as well as defend those same positions. He will be utilized in a variety of ways this upcoming year and will be expected to step in as a leader right away. Jaykwon will need to improve upon his consistency throughout an entire game as well as staying level headed throughout the season. If he can put all that together, an All-American nomination may be in the works.

If anything else, it could be entertaining.

That alone would be an improvement.

The video of this young man shows a slender 195 Ibs. But that photo on the Shockers offcial athletic site shows a dude with big shoulders and arms. He looks bigger than 195 in that photo. I guess we will find out. Go Shocks.

He and Okafor look like the Bruise Brothers. Yikes!

At a very basic level, he can play. shoxlax alluded to the likely reasons he didn't play at Georgia, and I think he's spot on. Does that mean he shouldn't have another chance and won't excel later on? No, but it's something to keep an eye on.

We need guys at this point who can go and get a bucket and/or create for others and I think he fits that mold. Like many of our signings, I'm cautiously optimistic. If they can all channel their abilities for the team's improvement, we will be in good shape. I'm not expecting a conference title, but if we can make strides and potentially make the tournament, I'll feel better about where we are headed.

Not sure attitude issues are the right words as much as work ethic. There are several comments about him on the Georgia Forums that you can take with a grain of salt, except they come from different people.

At this point, you take a chance on someone like this period end of story. We can't pick and choose what 4 star top rated Juco guys we bring in. If he's available and wants to play here you take him. I seem to remember Cle having the same "issues" coming in and look how he turned out. Same with Jamar Howard. This team could use a little entertaining attitude to offset the mellow...

That the #5 rated JUCO player in the country had that offer list serves as a reminder of the stupid crazy impact the transfer portal has had on recruiting. Not that we really needed a reminder.

#69 rated player coming out of high school. Had we signed hi then, he would be our highest rated player signed since Frankamp, if you count him. Only other top 100s were Landry, Fred and McDuffie. Not even sure about Fred. He’s in good company.
