It's patently unfair to attempt to take Mr. Crawford, who's from a bygone era, and compare him to players of today. With ice baths, electro stimulation therapy, and legal steroids, Casey could have been the next white Michael Jordan. ;)

Damn, I almost posed the question “over under on how long until someone complains that Pohto spends too much time on the perimeter and not down low where big men belong!”

I was thinking more like 10 games not 10 hours. However, I did share your observation of the footage. It’s a lot of pick and pop threes, some nice passes, a few back to the basket hooks over left shoulder, and almost no dribbling. Oh, and zero rebounds or blocks.

Someone posted a link to a detailed scouting report and it doesn’t sound like leaping or shot blocking is Pohto’s strong suit. And I think that’s ok.

We have another 6’10 kid, Matt McFarlane, who seems to have more springy athleticism and rim protecting ability.

Besides, Pohto is 6’11 so he doesn’t need to have the worlds greatest vertical to be an inside presence. Rosenboom can help him max out his potential in that area. From the sounds of it he is a high BBIQ/fundamental player who moves his feet well for such a big body and therefore should be able to play good pick and roll defense. And, although he doesn’t block a ton of shots, it sounds like he is good at maintaining verticality and forcing a shot over a tall defender without fouling.

His offensive post game sounds like it’s still a WIP. He at least has one decent move down there which given his height and ability to step out and knock down threes should be enough to keep defenses honest. Oh, and he’s supposed to be a great passer. I’m imagining some shades Krutwig as he develops.

All in all I think both of the bigs we recruited, Pohto and McFarlane, should be able to contribute and improve upon their predecessors from day 1 and have a ton of potential in the next 3-4 years.

There was also a highlight in that vid showing him finishing over/around a defender with his left hand, so I think he has the tools to build an effective back-to-the-basket game. Also noticed a play where he got the ball about 15 feet out, split two defenders with the dribble and finished.

I am a little concerned with his lack of elevation around the basket. Although his release is relatively quick, the quicker, if smaller, AAC post players will be able to compensate for his height. Here is where Rosenboom earns his salary.

That said, this is the guy I wanted and am excited to see how he develops.

I am very excited about his ability to shoot the ball and the type of shots he’s taking in those videos (open ones). It sounds like his post game is good enough right now and he has the skills to improve. If he can knock down open threes...dear lord.

Also, my favorite quote that someone else already posted was that he puts a body on a defender EVERY TIME a shot goes up. Music to my ears after watching Wade, Gilbert and Monzy stare at the ball in the air as their defender ran by them for a put back dunk.

Another thing I noticed on those videos is this kid can pass the ball. Several times I saw him pass it right out to open shooter once they passed it to him. He did not delay. He could of taken a shot but saw somebody more open in the corner and past it right back out for an open 3. My goodness A big man that knows when to pass the ball back out, is truly a rare breed with todays kids. Basketball IQ is underrated.

He could really pass and was a very good screener. And then defensively, he can guard multiple positions and at times we could switch him onto point guards because he moves laterally so well.

Those were high-level big men he was working against down on the block. Many of those bigs ain't gonna' be playin' in the AAC either. I'm not too worried about him being a mis-match weakness against other front lines in the AAC, from what the video shows. Just sayin'...

The video showed him shooting successfully all the way out to 23’. The value of him forcing a shot blocking Center to guard him that far away from the basket is valuable so that Ricky, C.J. Tyson, Dexter, Qua, Porter, etc. can drive the ball to the basket without fear of being rejected. The defender won’t be able to sag off of Kenny and double up on our other players.

This video is quite a bit more pornographic. I like! Seeing some aggression/swagger. His break out of the dbl team to finish w/ a reverse layup showed nice mobility and presence of mind.
