  • Gradey Dick 6'5 G/F 2022 Collegiate to Kansas

Gradey Dick is 6'4 guard/wing from Wichita Collegiate. Looks like he averaged close to 20 points per game as a freshman. Hard to find much information on but Eric Bossi knows his stuff.

My brother used to play baseball with his older brother. Crazy, I remember when Gradey was just a baby.

They whole family are tall and gangly athletes, and great people. Would be fun to see him become a big time recruit and stay in Wichita!

Always good to see the local talent grow. I'm sure the staff has watched him play a few times. 2022 isn't that far off, any word of interest on the part of Wichita State?

His people hail from Barber County. Grady had about 30 in the substate finals. His shooting range goes out to damn near 30 feet. He was their go-to guy as a freshman and brought the ball up for them. His entire family is taller than him.

So you're saying he could be 7'2" by the time he wears the yellow and black? :)

Obviously a long ways away, but both of the older brothers go to KU. I'm sure that would be the likely destination if he does become a high profile recruit.

Rarely has KU recruited the same players we have. They are most interested in Top 50 or maybe 75. We have rarely broke 100 and KU had no interest in Landry. I’m not sure how much interest they have in Berry or if Gradey will rise to their standard.

Well they certainly have the dough for it.

He might be interested in having some conversations with other local players who have gone to KU. Perry Ellis was a potential early entrant into the NBA draft until he went to KU. Conner Frankamp may have some enlightening info.

This. The local kids want to go to KU so bad that they are blinded by the fact that they are low priority players. Perry had a nice career but could have been a star at WSU.

Yeah, going to KU really killed the (checks notes) consensus second team All-American's career.

Perry's lack of an NBA career so far has literally nothing to do with KU and much more to do with the fact that he's a tweener and not a good fit for his position in the NBA.

Kel, Ellis was one of those guys who was a very good college player but, as you say, didn't have the combination of size and game to fit neatly into the NBA.

As to whether he'd have done better at WSU, who knows -- but he couldn't possibly have done much worse; and in the meantime he'd have played in the Final Four his very first Shocker season (as well as possibly facilitating at least one more trip thereafter).

What other KU greats are killing it in the NBA right now? How many one and dined have been under achieving and how many top 15 recruits slid after their year at KU?

Hard to say if he'd have had a better NBA chance, but he might have had a national championship ring...

mattdalt, those players all played. The question was, what KU players are killing it in the NBA right now? I named them.

Are they really "KU" players? They attended for several months, at most. Even their alumni team does not identify with KU as they are calling themselves "Self Made."

The part that is being missed by the KU supporters is that the KU guys in the NBA were EXPECTED to do well in the NBA by the time they were Juniors in high school. Neither Fred nor Landry were top-100 guys in their high school graduating class. They were expected to have zero prospects of ever sniffing the NBA. Now both of them are top 200 - 300 in the entire world. Baker was MAYBE going to be a successful D1 player.

The difference between the programs is that KU gets guys who are expected to do well in the NBA. Marshall gets guys who have no chance at getting to the NBA and gets them there. Marshall develops players. Self houses them for a year or two.

We will never know the future of Perry Ellis if he had attended WSU. We do know that Self didn't develop Ellis to the point that he could get much of a look from the NBA when he had that possibility coming out of high school. We do know that Marshall's bunch of (mostly) 2* and 3* players beat Self's group of mostly 4* and 5* players.

We know that Marshall develops players. We've seen little evidence that Self does the same. Using Baker as an example because we know what kind of a car he drove. Baker drove a white Hyundai. Billy Preston drove a tricked-out Mercedes registered in his grandmother's name, and we know that Adidas was funneling money to players (not their grandmothers) to get them to KU.

Marshall beat Self. Any more questions on which coach is better at developing players?
