  • Markel Crawford Class of 2013, Offered

Markel Crawford, a 6-3 pg at Melrose Hi in Memphis has received an offer from the Shockers after our coaching staff made a recent visit to his school. He is a Rivals' 3 star and they show offers also made by Auburn, Florida, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Georgetown was in the gym the same day as the Shockers.

The info was broken by his high school coach who had this to say:

    MelroseCoachJJJermaine Johnson

Markel Crawford just received an offer from the Shockers of Witchita State one of the best college basketball programs in the nation period.

Emphasis added. I like it. No further discussion is required.

Then I'm hoping he does not attend our Shocker Madness because in comparison with a lot of universities, our "Madness" sucks.

maybe that is why they moved it to thursday early evening - so they wouldn't have to worry about some recruits/potential recruits coming out for it.

Sheesh, it sucks really, I go for the preview of shocker hoops and that satisfies my expectations for the evening. Gosh I hope HCGM doesn't embarrass the program and bring in any recruits.

SB. I thought they moved it to inconvenience you and the rest of the whine fest crowd.

Last year a very good recruit from Georgia came. He didn't wonder in uninvited. Even on Thursday, expect a few recruits, probably mostly from the area. This weekend is a busy time for recruits with many offers of attending events. Our Madness doesn't have any competition. Maybe that's one reason for the change, who knows.

He's the one who looked bored out of his mind and we knew right there we weren't going to get a commitment from him.

It would be nice if Shocker Madness could really be used for recruiting like it is at so many other places. Unfortunately, it is not and it's apparently not something the athletic department wants to create as there is next to no publicity for this event....Ever.

GREAT!!! Ruin my frickin day. I was so PISSED about this and I was not the only one. Coaches worked their :wsu_posters: off to get this young man here, and he came with the thought of leaving as a Shocker.

EPIC FAIL!! This young man will be seen this year hoopin in the ACC on ESPN.

We have Marketing Majors and others that SHOULD be making this a top level event.

It's every Shocker fans job also to make sure people know about Shocker Madness. They have built it....

You probably need to convince the staff. They have used Madness as a recruiting tool, and I doubt if that changes. It would be nice if it was a slick event, full of cheering fans, and even a rap group or two like they are going to have at Memphis for Markel to enjoy. I'd be all for it. But I think our staff can convince recruits it will be a different story when it comes to game time. I really think relationships is what wins over most of our recruits followed by the fans going nuts during games. They will see that on video.

Sure did. That'll never happen here with how we do this

It just wears me down with all of the complaints about everything on this website. Just trust Marshall. Dont you think he has done a good job. I believe he knows what he is doing

Do you understand the potential recruiting tool this could be? Creighton being on ESPN could help them land a couple of recruits. Even if we're not on ESPN, a better event could be used as a recruiting tool. The way it is now, we should hope Marshall doesn't bring in any recruits. He's done a great job recruiting, but this is another tool that he could use to land bigger and better players if he had it.

The status quo is not good enough. We can and should do better.
