  • Tai Strickland 6'2 PG 2018 to Wisconsin

Perhaps another name the Shockers may be getting involved with. Tai Strickland is a 6'2 point guard from Tampa, Florida. He's playing alongside Ole Miss commit and former Shocker recruit Serrel Smith at St. Petersburg High this season. Holds offers from USF, Boston College, Cornell, and Austin Peay. Received a 3* 79 rating from ESPN and holds 3-stars from both 247 and Rivals as well.

While some players do choose to follow thier dad, or unqualified dad lands a gig to get a player, it doesnt always happen that way.

Tai, or even his dad, may want him to grow beyond what he can teach him.

Shockers, Rutgers, and Wisconsin watched Tai last night. Keep in mind that Serrel Smith is on the same team.

Why isn't Rod Strickland listed as part of USF's staff?

I assume he was part of the prior staff and was not retained by Brian Gregory..

I am also assuming Rod would like to find another coaching gig.

I remember when Rod dropped a double/double on us in the NCAA tournament.

Is the growing interest in another guard a sign that Marshall believes this is Landry's last year or that SHJ may be headed somewhere other than the Roundhouse next season?

If that is the case, 247sports needs to update their site

Rod talks about his son Tai on the Jason & John show. Go to around the 16 minute mark. He also said he has another son in the 2020 class and said they were only 5'3" and 5'1" when they entered high school.

That 5-1 or 5-3 stuff was probably true of Frank Sylvester, too (remember him?); he just never grew after entering high school.

Anyway, as for Strickland, history tells us that someone leaves just about every year, and Marshall knows that even better than we do. So he just keeps on shaving, and there are actually a number of cans of shave cream he and his staff seem to be looking at right now.

Is Strickland still on our PG radar?
