Shockers' M&M Boys Lose to 5 Ranked Florida Duo in Tiebreaker

Junior Marius Frosa and sophomore Murkel Dellien gave Johannes Ingildsen and Alfredo Perez of Florida all they could handle Friday at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa.

Frosa and Dellien, representing Wichita State in the round of 16 double main draw, took to the court to face the No. 5 duo of Ingildsen and Perez of Florida Friday afternoon. The Gator tandem took the first set from the Shockers, 6-1. Wichita State battled back in the second set and came away with a 6-3 win, after jumping to a 4-1 lead. Frosa and Dellien were in control in the tiebreaker, taking a 4-1 lead. After tying it at 6-6, Florida ran away and took the tiebreaker, 10-6.

The Shocker Men open their season with a competitive 5-2 win over the University of Buffalo in Ithaca, NY today.

Shocks face Cornell tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 pm. The Shocks will then drop down to the Boston area this Saturday and Sunday at the Harvard Inivte although I am not sure who they will be playing. Looks like a 4-team event with Harvard, Wichita State, Auburn and Utah.

Here is a look at today's match with Cornell from Cornell's web site.

                    http://cornellbigred.com/news/2018/1...ual-debut.aspx

Stoica/Inoue win the #3 doubles 6-4 but Delien/Froza and Herson/Caligiana lose at #1 and #2 doubles by identical 4-6 scores and Cornell goes up 1-0.

Shocks will now have to win 4 of 6 singles matches to win the the match.

So far Shocks have been competitive but not sucessful. They are down 0-1 in all 6 single matches losing 3 of those 6 sets in tiebreakers and 2 by 4-6 scores. There back could not be more up agaisnt the wall.

Shocker Eddie Stoica fell in #4 singles 4-6, 1-6 and Shocker Andrea Trapani fell in #5 singles 3-6, 1-6. Cornell clinches with 1 more win.

Murket Dellien falls in #3 signles 4-6, 6-4, 1-6 and Cornell clinches the match.

Miroslav Herzan wins in #6 singles using a super tiebreaker 6-7, 7-6, (10-4) to avoid a sweep.

Marius Frosa falls in #2 singles 6-7, 5-7.

Cornell gets the seep as Haru Inoue falls to the 95th ranked player in a super tiebreaker 6-7, 6-4 (8-10).

Shocks fall 6-1 in a match much closer than the final score indicates.
