A clear sign that I should probably retire from posting on Shockernet. Perhaps at the end of the 2018-19 season.

Moved to a thread that is, hopefully, at least remotely related to the topic of the posting.

The #4 seed Shockers lost their quarterfinal match to #5 seed USF today 3-4 and their season comes to an end. After a 1-5 start they finished 14-10 with today's loss. This was a Shockeer team that played quite a few (10) matches that ended in a 4-3 score going 5-5 in those matches.

Today's match was may have been lost in the #2 doubles where USF came back from a 2-5 deficit to win 7-5 to clinch the doubles point for USF. Hard to say for sure because the Shocks were leading 5-4 in #3 doubles when USF clinched the point and may or may not have won that one.

DALLAS - Wichita State couldn't storm off a late USF rally, falling 4-3 in the American Athletic Conference Quarterfinals to the No. 5 seed Bulls.

The Shock lose only 1 senior, Miroslav Herzan, from this year's team Herzan was 13-14 in singles play and 17-11 in doubles play this year.

In the regular season finale in Des Moines Drake has eanred the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. The Shocks won the #2 doubles 6-3 with Drake taking the #3 doubles 6-4. The point was settled with a 7-6 tiebreaker win by Drake in he #1 doubles.

The Shocks now have the difficult task of winning 4 of the 6 singles matches in order to win the match. Early on it is not looking very good.

Drake wins the the number #2, #5 and #3 singles to close out the Shocks 4-0 as the Shocks 7-match road winning streak comes to an end.

    Next up: AAC Championships

The Shocks, now 14-8, have one more regular season match remaining, again on the road, as they take on former Valley rival Drake in Des Moines.next Saturday. The AAC Championships begin the next Thursday back in Dallas at the SMU Tennis Complex.

Not sure where the Shocks will be seeded. They do own wins over SMU and Tulsa both by 4-3 scores and both on the road.

The Shocker men have ridden their 6-match road winning streak down to Dallas where they are taking on fellow AAC member SMU this afternoon at 4:30 pm (in porgress).

The Shocks are 0-8 all-time against SMU but this may be their year to break into the win column vs SMU as the Mustangs are 7-15 on the season. The Shocker men are 13-8 after starting the season 1-5.

    http://goshockers.com/news/2018/4/5/...in-dallas.aspx

    Live Stats

The Shocks take the doubles point with a 6-2 win in the 2nd flight and a 6-3 win in the 1st flight. The Shocks lead 5-4 in the 3rd flight when they clinched the point.

    On to singles play.

With the Shocks needing a split in the 6 singles matches they are not off to a good start. After 1 set SMU leads in 4 of the 6 singles flights. Shocks need to step it up in Set 2.

Inoue wins the #1 singles 6-2, 7-5 and Stoica wins the #5 singles 6-1, 7-6. However, SMU won the #2 and #4 singles.

The match score shows 3-3 with the #6 singles done in SMU's column with them leading 6-3, 3-2 which implies WSU's Caligiana had to retire.

So the match comes down to a 3rd set in the 3rd flight.

Frosa comes thru for the Shocks with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win to secure the Shocks' 7th straight road win.

The Shocker men picked up a pair of wins this week.in San Antonio. The beat Texas A&M - CC 4-3 on Wednesday and UTSA today 4-0 (and were leading in all 3 of the unfinished singles matches). Not the toughest opponents on their schedule by any means but the Shockers do edge above .500 on the year at 9-8 after a 1-5 start.

The Shocks play in the Rice Tournament this weekend. Looks like that tournament includes Rice, Wichita State, VCU and Texas A&M-CC.

The Shocker men's tennis team is taking their 4-match winning streak (Tulsa, San Francisco, #46 New Mexico and Grand Canyon) Norman, Oklahoma this evening to take on the #15 ranked Sooners.

The Shocks have been playing better lately but they are probably in a bit over their heads with OU. But we'll see how it goes. The Shocks have been reasoanbly competitive even in their losses this year.

WSU's Marius Frosa and Murkel Dellien won the #1 doubles 6-2. OU countered with a 6-2 win in the #3 doubles match 6-2.

WSU's Miroslav Herzan and Andrea Caligiana wint the #2 doulbes in a tiebrekaer 7-6 (8-6) to earn the Shocks the doubles point.

However, the Shockers are trailing in Set 1 in all 6 singles matches So it may not make much difference.

Shocks lose Set 1 in all but the #5 singles where they picked up a set in a tiebreaker.

OU picks up 3 wins in the #3 singles (7-6, 6-1), #6 singles (6-3, 6-3) and #2 singles (6-3, 6-4) and looks like they are about to close it out with a win in the #1 singles.

OU clinches the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win in the #1 singles to go up 4-1. #4 and #5 singles will go unfinished although the Shocks held a slight edge in both of those matches.

Shocks were competitive just not quite talented enough. Shockers host Nebraska tomorrow at 3:00.

NORMAN, Okla. - - The Wichita State men's tennis team fell, 4-1, to No. 15 Oklahoma, Friday at the Headington Tennis Complex.
