Shocks are off to a good start in Round 2 at 4-under over their first 3 to 6 holes and have pulled back into 1 stroke of Illinois State has has dropped a shot (despite recording and Eagle 3) to go to 3-over and to pull back ahead of Northern Iowa. Now the guys need to stay focused and play smart.

Guess not. Gage Ihrig goes bogey, bogey, bogey and the Shocks fall behind by 4.

Shocks are down by 2 as the head into holes #13 through #18. In Round 1 the Shocks shot a total of 14 over par among all 5 team members. On the final 5 holes they were a combined 10 over par. So this is where they need to really bear down and focus.

Jacob Bishop plays these 6 holes in 4-over par in Round 2. Jacob started on #5 so he still has holes #1 thru #4 to play.

Gage Ihrig plays them in 5-over par. Gage started on #4.

Conrad Walcher makes it through in 1-over and that included a birdie on #15. Conrad started his round on #3.

Yannick Emmert is 2-over on the final 6 holes of the back 9. Yannick started on #2 so he has 1 hole to play.

Grant Bennett made it through these 6 holes in 2-over and he finishes his 2nd round at even par and is 1-over for the tournament.

In the Shocks defense everybody has seemed to struggle over these last 5 or 6 holes on the back 9. Illinois State's #1 golfer Trent Wallace went bogey, par, double-bogey on the 16, 17 and 18 today. Combined with a birdie by Jacob Bishop on #3 (his 17th hole of Round 2) the Shocks have pulled back into a tie with Illinois State.

Just a handull of holes remaining to be played in Round 2.

The Shocks are in the clubhouse at 12-over par for the tournament after a 4-over par 2nd round and have pulled ahead of Illinois State by 1 shot. Northern Iowa is 11 shots behind the Shocks and Missouri State is 18 shots back. No one else is within 20.

Looks like it is a two team race but UNI and MSU aren't totally out of it but both would need to play their best round of the tournament tomorrow and have both the Shocks and the Redbirds struggle.

Another round tomorrow matching the Shocks' 4-over round today will be very tough to beat although Illinois State did shoot 2-over in today's 1st round.

Grant Bennett, Yannick Emmert and Conrad Walcher all shot even par 72 in today's Round 2. Jacob Bishop chipped in a 4-over 76. Gage Ihrig had the throw away score at 7-over 79.

Illinois State has played the final 6 holes on the back 9 better than the Shocks. Their 5 golfers are a combined 16-over on those holes and the Shocks team is a combined 24-over on those holes. The Shocks have played the rest of the course at 1-over par vs 8-over par for Illinois State. So the Shocks either need to get out to a good lead or they need to figure out how to attack those final 6 holes on the back 9, If the match is closed when they get to those holes that might favor the Redbirds based on today's results.

All players on the top 6 teams are starting on No. 1 today. All players on the bottom 3 teams are starting on No. 9.

Therefore, the final 6 holes that gave the Shocks some problems yesterday will be the closing holes for the leaders.

Very early in the round with 3 holes for all players in the books the Shocks are 1-under and Illinois State is 4-over to widen the Shocks lead to 6 strokes. A long way to go but a good start for the Shocks today.

On holes 4 thru 6 Illinois State recorded 6 birdies a 1 bogey with the #4 golfer making birdies on all 3 hoels. The Shockers had 2 birdies and 5 bogeys on those holes and the their 6 shot lead is gone. Both teams sit at 13-over par after 6 complete.

Momentum has swung to the Redbirds.

After Illinois State's #4 golfer went birdie-birdie-birdie on 4-5-6 he gave that back with a double bogey and a bogey on 7 and 8.

Grant Bennett playing in the #1 position for the Shocks struggled a little bit on the front 9 at 3-over. However, #2 Yannick Emmert and #5 Jacob Bishop have played wll and both at at 1-under at the turn.

Still looking the the championship will be determined on the final 5 or 6 holes.

In the 1st two rounds Illinois State shot a combined 374 on the back 9 and the Shocks a combined 378 (that's including all 5 team members).

Gage Ihrig went bogey - double bogey on numbers 11 and 12. Illinois State pulls to within 1. With Gage going to 5-over on his round that puts more pressure on the other 4 Shockers to play well.

The top 4 scoring Shockers did well on holes 10-12 making a combined 12 pars on 12 holes. Unfortunately, Illinois State's top 4 scorers had 8 pars and 4 birdies as Illinois State leads by 1 heading into the final 6 holes.

Based on the way the two teams played these holes yesterday this would seem to favor Illinois State. The Shocks will need to flip that script if they are going to win.

Another slight advantage Illinois State has at this point is the the differnce between the #4 score and the current #5 score is only 1 shot whereas the Shocks have a 2 stroke difference.

Illinois State stumbles a bit. Their #3 golfer who had been 1-under on today's round through 12 holes went double bofey - triple bogey on #13 and #14. The Redbirds' #5 golfer who was 1-over after 14 socred a double bogey on #15.

Hopefully, the Shockers can take advantage of this stumble.

Gage Ihrig went bogey-bogey-bogey on 13-14-15 but he was already our high score of the day so it hasn't hurt our current position but his 8-over 5 strokes worse then our next worse score so the remaining 4 guys have no cushion at all. If any one of the falters it will be felt.

Jacob Bishop who was 1-under thru 12 goes bogey, double bogey on 13 and 14 so that will offset most of Illinois State's stumbles on these holes.

May boil down to who can make the shots under pressure.
