Dellien Named ITA UTR Player of the Week

Redshirt Senior Murkel Dellien is the first Shocker tennis player to be named the ITA UTR Player of the Week after he increased his Universal Tennis Ranking to 13.15 this past week while also guiding the team to two top 50 wins.
Dellien, a native of Trinidad, Bolivia, went a combined 3-0 last weekend to help the Shockers beat #48 SMU and upset #28 Pepperdine at home to extend their win streak to five. Dellien started the weekend with a doubles victory with partner Marius Frosa over SMU's Caleb Chakravarthi/Jan-Simon Vrbsky, 6-3. In singles, Dellien handled Chakravarthi, 6-3, 6-2, to put the Shockers up 3-0. Dellien's signature win of the weekend came against the No. 28 Waves. He faced No. 52 Adrian Oetzbach on the premiere court and won a three-set thriller for the clinch and his ninth- straight win, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.

The Shocks now head out on the road to play 3 consecutive ranked AAC teams. @ #27 Tulane on April 9, @ #29 USF on April 11 and @ #21 UCF on April 12th.
Very challenging but this Shocker team may just be up to it. The Shocks beat #22 Memphis in Wichita 5-1 back on March 5th.

Shocks Sweep Season Series with SMU
No. 34 Wichita State men's tennis won its first match of the weekend be beating No. 48 SMU, 4-1, for the series sweep of the Mustangs at the Coleman Tennis Complex on Friday.
No. 34 Wichita State men's tennis won its first match of the weekend be beating No. 48 SMU, 4-1, for the series sweep of the Mustangs at the Coleman Tennis Complex on Friday. The Shocks edged SMU in late January 4-3 in Dallas.
Nicolas Acevedo clinched the match by winning a three-set dual at No. 4, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Nicolas looks like a pretty athletic young man:

Shocks Payback Denver
The Shocks avenge a 6-1 mid-February loss at Denver as they hosted #45 Denver (8-2) in Wichita today and came away with a 5-2 win.
The Shocks won the doubles point and they won the #1, #2, #4 and #5 singles.

No. 34 Wichita State men's tennis swept Creighton to improve their record against them to 30-0 on Friday at the Coleman Tennis Complex.

Wichita State men's tennis won their first match against a Top 25 team since they beat No. 12 Oklahoma State in 1985 by controlling their home court and upsetting No. 22 Memphis, 5-1, at the Coleman Tennis Complex on Friday.
