Our SOS is actually a number you shouldn't be bringing up. For a Valley school in 2011, 90 isn't that bad. What the hell do you expect.. a Top 10 SOS in this league?

Our problem has been tanking against the best teams on our schedule. Also we had about two cupcakes too many from the depths of the SWAC. Take that out, and we have a really good SOS.
Everyone would have a good SOS if you took off their crappy opponents.

I think you misunderstood. Our SOS ranking of 90 isn't that bad, even with the craptastic opponents. It's definitely could be worse. It would move from "not that bad" status to "really, really good" status if we swapped out the SWAC schools.

I'm just saying the numbers aren't that bad period.
      Deuces Valley.
      ... No really, deuces.

Sure, sure. But do you anticipate our SOS increasing by the time March Madness arrives? Having a SOS of 100+ is a real possibility.

Valid point. Although we have now a decent Indiana State team twice, UNI twice, MSU once, sCUm once, and the BB game. The rest will be SOS killers. So I'd say we can hold pretty steady.

I hope you are right. As of today, besides us, only UNI and MSU were sub 100 in RPI.

            • The rest of the way, there are 2 games remaining against a sub 200 team (BU and ISUred). The remaining 10 games (9 Valley + BB) are against top 158 or better. I think we should be ok as long as we keep winning.

              • Stay away from bad losses. No Evansville's this year. Take care of our Brackebuster game at home, we should get a pretty good draw. Make it to Sunday in St. Louis. Finish on a strong note. We need to take care of ourselves and not worry about things we cannot control. To paraphase the great Pedro Cerrano, "#%&* you Jobu, we do it ourselves".
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

                • A quick search didn't show this being posted yet, so hopefully it's not a repeat.

Valley is a 2 bid league, we're not one of the last 4 in, 1st round game in Tulsa against a program that we need to pay back. I'll take it.

                      It would look like this:

                      • I would take an 11 seed too, and even I would be making arrangements to go see the game in Tulsa.

If we win both games this week, we should be getting some more votes for the polls.

And if we happened to play Texas in the 2nd round, they only have 2 notable wins so far, over North Carolina and Michigan State. Their next 4 should tell a little more about them, Texas A&M, Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Missouri.
They are 14-3 so far, sound familiar?

                        • And a non-power conference getting two #2 seeds. When was the last time that was a distinct possibility?

Good news, hopefully we'll both maintain.

On a side note, the tagline for this story on ESPN said, "Joe Lunardi has never handed out 11 bids to one conference -- until now. Led by Pitt, the Big East just keeps rolling."

I hate to break it to Joe and ESPN, because I know they're pretty full of themselves, but he's never handed out a single bid to the NCAA tournament. That's the selection committees job. Or so I thought.

Maybe this was a freudian slip...

Have you seen ESPN on Selection Sunday? They have a "reveal" of Lunardi's bracket and act like it's the real deal.
