Some people have asked the question "What has changed since Football was dropped?"

I think there are two other things to remember. The first is TIVO. Back in the day, you couldn't come to a WSU game and not miss a TV game featuring better teams. You had to make a choice. Now, you could watch WSU while recording other games on TIVO.

The other area for possible revenue is internet Football broadcasts for those of us out of the area. That was also unavailable back in the old days.

Some kind of entertainment or hotel tax might also be worth thinking about.

What is the Mill Levy rate at that WSU currently is recieving from the city? Wouldn't it be easier to have a vote to raise that levy percentage?

It is the county not the city and it is 1.5 mills.

There is no property tax lid anymore in Kansas so the County Commission could raise it any time they want without a vote of the people.

I must change my medication since I agree with shockfever and veritas on this subject. A new stadium would be paramount in trying to get this dog to hunt. Keep cessna stadium for track and soccer since one of the womens sports we would have to add might just as well be soccer. I would propose to buy the properties south of 17th and Fairmount park and put a new stadium there. The park actually provides a natural "bowl" and the adjacent properties acquired could serve as parking lots and or the WSU ATHLETIC VILLAGE. Of course naming rights could be sold for any and all buildings. :good:

I think the area has changed in a lot of ways since 1986, most notably its size, first and foremost.

Again, you have people that hate the Valley and want to get out. And then you have these same groups of people that look down to football. It's not a two-way street. You can't hold both of these thoughts and not look like an idiot.

If you're a forward thinker with the "future" set on your mind, then most would realize how far we really could advance this university with football. I think the reward outweighs the risk. There is a whole generation of fans (me included) that has never experienced a WSU football game before and would probably like to see it.

1. Does anyone talk about "advance this university" by not starving academic departments? (Anyone counted the number of (academic or athletic) administrators? President, provost, associate provosts, assistant provost(s), AD, asociate AD(s), etc.)

I know it's difficult to dissect the budget lines available online, but I have a hard time believing the amount of money going to athletics from WSU is that high. "Direct institutional support" is much lower than you state..

Trust me on this.

Now you want the students to pay more?

I also believe our conference brethren get a lot more athletic money from their students and the school than WSU does. There is room, if the students want it.

I always ask this question and have never gotten an answer. I have asked ADJS and ADES. Does anyone know what happened to the "alive in 95" cash that was raised. Wasn't it somewhere around $500k? I have heard two versions. One, the hell raisers signed off on the money being used for construction at the ECK or that it is sitting in an account earmarked for Football.

Anyone know? What ever happened to the hell raisers by the way?

It is amazing what you can learn from retired business professors. Some of them even go to the championship game of the MVC baseball tourney.

Maybe I should have said "Trust me when I say that I know a person who went through the WSU budget, line by line, several years ago and identified a lot of money going to athletics." I don't recall the exact amount.

The mill levy is against property. A sales tax everyone gets to share the burden including visitors to the city/county. It would not stand a chance as a mill levy.

This is an athletic message board so I was talking about advancing athletically. I don't think we would be compromised in any way academically.

I'm not sure what your second point means or where you fall in the issue.
