  • Tad Boyle moving on up

    From ESPN:

Northern Colorado coach Tad Boyle is set to be named to the same position at the University of Colorado, sources with direct knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com's Andy Katz on Monday.

The Boulder Daily Camera reported Monday that the school would hold an afternoon news conference.

Boyle comes to the Buffaloes after four seasons at Northern Colorado. His team was 25-8 this season, second in the Big Sky. It was the most wins in school history. In four seasons, his overall record is 56-66.

Boyle, a Greeley, Colo., native, played collegiately at Kansas in the mid-1980s.

Good for Tad. I hope he does well at CU, although the situation there doesn't seem very conducive to making CU competitive in the B12. I got the impression that Bzdelik wanted out badly.

Interesting thing, too, is that Tad will now be coaching vs. his alma mater and his old boss.

Great For Tad - could not happen to a nicer guy! Feel bad for the Bears - know who it feels to lose a good coach - to a bigger school.

Happy for Tad, might need to go to a few more CU games next season. I know a few kids who had worked with Tad at UNC (N. Colorado) and they said he was an awesome coach.

I hope he does well. However, CU's bball program is just cursed and for whatever reason they never experience much success.

Happy for Tad, but I was always kind of hoping he'd stay and succeed at UNC a few more years, then if/when Marshall moved on, take the next step.

Guess it could still happen, but you don't see too many coaches step down from a Big 12 job, even if it's a bottom feeder. You also don't see too many coaches from a conference like the Big Sky jump all the way up to the Big 12.

Oh well, congrats to the Buffs on a great hire.

I'd love to see Colorado beat up on K-who and other Big 12 teams down the road. They got the right man for the job.

wow. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, and then I think, this is the beginning of the end of his head coaching career. Colorado is a career killer for coaches. I hope it doesn't happen to Boyle at KU West, but it will.
I hope he makes a lot of money the next four years, cause he is going to be back with FHCMT as an asst. in five.

I completely disagree with this assessment. No offense. While Colorado's tradition isn't overwhelming, you've got to dig deeper. The mess that Bzdelik inherited was brutal. The program is now heading in a great direction, and if Boyle can keep the talent that's there, he might win 20 games--this season.

He's now run his own successful program, which is a HUGE transition for an assistant coach, and has had the chance to fine-tune his ideals.

My prediction is that Tad Boyle will be a successful head coach at the collegiate level. He's already on the right path.

Tad Boyle has already won a huge recruiting battle. Within 48 hours of being introduced as Colorado’s new head coach, Boyle solidified Alec Burks’ commitment to the program after flying…

Wonder if Tad would consider a home and home with the Shox...I am guessing not.

Colorado – Tad Boyle has hired Jean Prioleau (TCU) and Mike Rohn (Texas A&M) thus far. Sources indicate that he will retain assistant Tom Abatemarco.

Looks like it's Coaching Reunion time. We should know how these guys work together.

Also worth pointing out, Ryan Martin moves to be an assistant at Northern Colorado.

The importance of relationships in the coaching profession is unlike any other profession.

The study of coaching trees would be very interesting.

Matt Braeuer's contact in the business are starting to look pretty good. I imagine anyone who's ever coached him or played with him would have good things to say about him. That contact list has already spread to the coaching ranks of 4 D1 schools, including two B12 schools.
