Marshall was worried the team might come out rusty after the long layoff. That sure looked like exactly what happened.
It's hard to stop a 6'9" PG with the handles to drive through traffic to the hoop - and that's pretty much the way they use Babbitt. Babbitt was hitting anything from any where any way he could get the shot off.
The bad start to the game and then the bad start to the second half cost the game.
I'm starting to wonder about the cost/benefit of the CBS contract for the MVC Championship game. Putting the tourney that weekend compresses the regular season by a week and leaves Valley teams with an unusually long layoff between the end of the season and any post-season games.
I don't think Stutz and Durley would have both come out as flat if they were playing in a reasonably normal game routine. Everything was just a bit off tonight and I think the long layoff had something to do with that.
that and Nevada shooting lights out.The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Went to the game - I have a hard time saying that we didnt come to play - Nevada might have been the most athletic team we played this year - we really just didn't have an answer for them. Nevada was a good team and I cant figure out why they were a 6 seed - this game really explained our whole season - we looked really good at times - but at other times we werent very good - we surpassed most expectations this year and we have something to build on for next year. Could we have won or should we have won - perhaps - but they were a little better tonight. We lose by 4 - and our big go 7-20 from inside 4 feet. We know the things we have to work on for next year and our expectations will be very high next year - we should be the valley preseason # 1 - but we have to find a 40 minute game - we have to find the ability to get to the foul line and convert when we are a top 20 FT shooting team - I think we could afford to play a little faster - maybe like Nevada - we need to force the issue with teams that like to score in the 50's like alot of Valley teams like to do. Next year - might be our best team in quite some time - but everyone will need to improve their games. Next year has the promise of being one of those seasons - but we have never been a perenial NCAA team - this is the opportunity - HCGM, I believe knows what it takes to be "the next Gonzaga" - and he will find the players we need at the right positions. Maybe we need another PG - or maybe we need another 3 or 4 - I trust where we are going - this was a great season and we should be proud of what we accomplished. Next year will be our year! Hang in there fellow Shox fans - the best is yet to come!
We are Wichita State!Don't let the fear of striking out - keep you from playing the game!

Babbitt was a stud as expected. It was a disappointing loss for sure. It's sad to see the season come to an end, and to say goodbye to Clevin. He's been such an important part of our rebuilding process and as Mike Kennedy said in the post game, his spirit will linger for many years, and I am absolutely confident that he will see the fruits of his labors pay off in an NCAA berth next year and beyond. A great kid and a very good basketball player.
This is going to take some time to sink in. It seems like the season just started, and it's always hard to leave the roundhouse for the last time in a season. It's been a good season, and next year will be GREAT.
GO SHOX!
Thanks Clev.

Anything but that extremely weak reason, please.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

We got to start our S16 run against Seton Hall. We weren't so fortunate to get a grossly overrated opponent to start this post-season. It's pretty tough to compare the effect of a long layoff on different teams under different coaches.
The Shox looked rusty tonight.
I'll use you posting method, SF. If I say it OFTEN enough, it becomes fact.

There, I've said it 3 times. I don't have the time or desire to make separate posts to repeat myself like you do.The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

You had no rebuttal to my point. None whatsoever.
The best word to sum it up would be: FAIL.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

This game tonight was shades of our loss to Stanford last Season. We were slow out of the blocks both the 1st and second half. Nevada had a couple "go-to-players." We were missing shots and throws we normally make at home and actually let this winnable game slip through our fingers. It's over and I have no excuses.
On a positive note, Coach Marshall was all ready to hit the recruiting trail. 25 wins was more than expected and we will improve next Season but will have a much tougher schedule which is great!!!!!!!Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
