Originally posted by RoyalShockI watched that 10-minute highlight video a USU fan posted. There was some "state" team that played zone against them and the Aggies drained 3-pointer after 3-pointer after 3-pointer. I wondered how long the coach of that school was going to be employed.
From watching some of the Idaho and Nevada game, Tai Wesley is going to be a handful. Very mobile and nice post moves. Not sure if Durley or Ellis will get that assignment since their PF looks quick and mobile, as well.
Here's the video. I made it. Took me forever. Enjoy.

Originally posted by RoyalShockI read that but I guess I'm not following the connection, ST. What do you mean "there is a difference"?
I was simply saying that playing zone against a team that shoots that well isn't a good idea.
You are right about playing a zone against Utah St. -- sure fire death.

Founded in 1888, Utah State University is Utah's only land grant institution, serving over 28,000 students in Logan and around the state at Statewide Campuses, as well as at USU Eastern. Known for its robust and cutting edge research, Utah State challenges students to pursue academic opportunities that will change the world.

Do you think if I stand along the Hello Walk with a pint of Aggie Ice Cream I might have a shot?

Nevada played exclusively M2M in our first meeting with them in Reno. They played a zone against Saturday in Logan and really messed up our offense. It was our worst shooting game in a win this season. We shot 39%.
The reason Nevada switched to a zone in the second game is because USU's M2M sets will run a defense ragged if you try to guard them the whole game. USU's playbook is as thick as an NFL playbook. We wore Nevada out in Reno.
The zone helped them stay fresher in the second game against us. When WSU comes to town I think you'll see a good mix of M2M and zone. It'll be hard to play M2M exclusively at an altitude of 4400 ft. above sea level.
I'm sure WSU's M2M defense is very much better than most in the WAC.

Alot of WAC teams can't play us M2M for this very reason. You'll hear ESPN announcers comparing us to the Stockton and Malone Jazz of the 90's as far as our execution goes. Everyone sets solid screens and runs crisp routes and our timing is great. If you can manage to throw our timing off (Which athletic teams are sometimes able to do) it can cause alot of problems for us.

That video was sweet! What year was that? Levingston and Carr looked dominant. I wish USU had a webpage with some historical videos like that. It looked like a dunk fest for those guys. Carr won a scoring title in the NBA with the Kings if I remember right didn't he? I know he was with the Jazz in his later years in the league.
Here is a peak at some USU history:
Wayne Estes was perhaps the greatest athlete to set foot on the campus of Utah State University. His last night alive brought triumph and tragedy.
