  • Noise...

It's too bad Coach Marshall ever has to tell the home crowd to make noise. I know there are many older people in the building and it's tough to keep the noise momentum going for 40 minutes. But when he finally put his hand to his ear, it was great, and you could see ISU melt under the heavy noise. Back in the Smithson era, the place rocked the full 40 minutes. I hope we can get back to that some day. Koch is magic when everyone is on their feet. The Shox are a different team when everyone plays as hard as Hatch and Murry!

It's tough to get loud when you're down by 15 and playing flat. But still, once the game broke open, the crowd was ROCKIN!!

CKA - Loud, Proud, and Fulla Crowd!!

    Even on the bad days...

It seems like any game I go to, the fans will all stand up and clap when there is a timeout. Then as soon as the timeout is over, everyone sits down to watch the game.. That is what bothers and confuses me...

When the Shockers start to play some consistently good ball, forty minutes of good ball, the building will get very loud. The way it is now, we are not good enough to dominate all game long. Once we get on a roll, the opposition calls a time-out and the place quiets down. What needs to eventually happen is after the oppositional time-out, we go right back to where we left off. When this happens the place will become special again. For this to happen, we have to continue to recruit at a high level and put some separation between our caliber of player, and the rest of the Valley's.

what is hilarious about this quote is that it is literally the complete opposite of marshall's way of coaching. he would never call the time out that MTXE is claiming is necessary.

It's late and I think we both need a rest. Your agenda is starting to get in the way of your reading comprehension. Perhaps we can carry on again tomorrow if I find my way back on the forums. Gnite.

the part in bold, that is on the fans. they dont have to wait for the game to resume or for the shockers to make a play or two.

I thought the crowd was great. Spontaneously responding to ebbs and flows in the game, the timing was perfect. I also thought HCGM was playing to the crowd, not begging for more noise. It seemed to me that the crowd pretty much won that game, didn't we? Sadly, I missed the post game interview with Coach.

The crowd did help win the game, after Coach told it to get off its collective butts and get with it. MTXE, you must go to a different game. The crowd should be on its feet when we are down, not passive as it was tonight for the first 30 minutes. We stand for defense, but a fourth of the crowd always sits down after the first Shocker basket and most of the rest can't wait for the other team to score so they can sit. We can be the best crowd going. Often we are not.

If you are talking about when coach was on the floor during a time out pumping his fist at the crowd....well then you weren't paying attention. The crowd was plenty into it already. If anything I thought coach was responding to the crowd.

The crowd wasn't into it when we were down 15, but go to ANY place in the country and I am willing to put ALOT of money that home crowds wouldn't be loud when their team is down 15. The crowd got back into it anytime the lead got cut to 8-9 points.

play ignited an 18-3 run that eventually put WSU up 67-63. WSU scored on 18 of its last 22 possessions, fueled by the crowd-volume ISU has not heard this season. Reed admitted after the game the crowd played a factor in WSU’s surge.

“It was very loud. At times, you couldn’t hear anything. We knew what we were running, but if we didn’t have a hand signal, we didn’t know what was going on,” Reed said[

I think the crowd did just fine when it needed to be loud and as pinstripers posted earlier responded to the ebbs and flows of the game as you would expect.

The Shocks were up by either 5 or 7 during the late timeout when HCGM put his hand to his ear and I think it was more in jest than really begging for more noise. The team was pretty much spend after the amazing rally lead by Clev, JT, Toure and Graham and those guys were spent. The same could be said of the crowd at that point. They were a little spent and were taking a well-deserved rest and perhaps letting out one, humongous collective sigh of relief.

                        From Today's Eagle:

The rally charged up the crowd at Koch Arena to decibel-busting levels in the second half. Angry and disappointed after WSU's first-half performance, the fans roared non-stop the final 10 minutes.

For part of the game you could hear a pin drop. I think it was a just response for the product on the court. But when given something to respond to that place was as loud as it ever was and as loud as anyplace in the country. It was rockin' when Marshall ran onto the court. I took it as appreciation and encouragement. It was an honor to us that he felt he needed to take a moment to respond to us.

I listened on the radio and I thought the crowd was one of the best this year.

No crowd is going to do great for 40 minutes, and especially the way the team played the first thirty minutes. Check out some of the coaches from some of the BIG 6 confrences. I see them play on TV and a lot of coaches have to get the crowd to get into the game.

Great game and great crowd last night, IMHO.

marshall was more caught up in the moment. i dont think he thought the crowd was quiet bc at this moment we were up with 50 seconds left. I think he was just more pumped than anything. crowd exploded for the last 8 minutes of the game. one of the loudest i have seen there.
