With the Atl-10, C-USA, MWC, and WCC not participating, logic might suggest that the success of BB may depend on keeping the MVC in it as they are the only other top 10 conference playing. I believe the Colonial is equally important (east coast TV). If these two can't get they games they need, they're gone and so is the BB.

For the most part, of all the teams we have played so far, GMU is the only one I would like to see us play annually.

But it seems that we would be much better off schedule wise if we played almost any of the other teams playing in the BB than the patsies we played this year.
It might be best that WSU go out and try to get a few games with the mid-major conferences that are not in the BB. Then, if they are doing well as hoped, they could always get one of the top BB games without any "conflicts".

      • Rumor has it that the MVC will get 3 TV games for the bracketbuster event. Surely WSU would be 1 of them.

Actually it would seem MSU, UNI and WSU are the TV games. Here is what I have found on the BB's for the Valley so far.

        Drexel @ BU
        Loyola (Ill) @ CU
        Drake @ CS-Northridge
        UIC @ Evansville
        Morehead St @ Ill St
        Indiana St @ UWGB

        • UNI manhandled Siena this season and we beat the Saints last season.

If they wanted a REAL matchup, it would be WSU @ Butler.

              • I think Utah St. might be a good matchup. Looking at their schedule, it appears their biggest game of the year is right before the brackebusters against La. Tech (the team tied for 1st with them in their conference). It might be the prime time to sneak up on somebody and steal one on the road. I just don't think playing at USU would be as bad as some are making it.

And I would also like to play VCU as well.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

                      • From what I've found, if a match-up has been announced, it is not televised... if a team's opponent is still TBA, then it's a televised game.

From looking at various conference websites, here is a list of 13 teams that will be televised for certain.

                        Louisiana Tech (WAC)
                        Nevada (WAC)
                        New Mexico State (WAC)
                        Utah State (WAC)
                        George Mason (CAA)
                        Old Dominion (CAA)
                        Virginia Commonwealth (CAA)
                        William and Mary (CAA)
                        Northeastern (CAA)
                        Butler (Horizon)
                        Iona (Metro Atlantic)
                        Siena College (Metro Atlantic)
                        Pacific (Big West)

These three MVC teams have not had match-ups announced, so I assume they are televised

                        Northern Iowa (MVC)
                        Wichita State (MVC)
                        Missouri State (MVC)

That leaves 6 remaining teams for televised games.

                        • From the Springfield News-Leader, WSU, UNI and MSU are televised:

Missouri State will join Northern Iowa and Wichita State as Missouri Valley Conference basketball teams receiving televised games as part of the ESPN BracketBuster, Feb. 19-20.

                            • No doubt HCGM would prefer to play Butler or VCU. Butler because it is the top team in the BB and, being on the road, would be a win/win situation. Few would expect WSU to win there and, if we lose, probably won't hurt our dance ticket. The return game would be a big plus as well.

VCU might be his second choice because of their RPI, but also giving him a chance to get exposure in old stomping grounds.

Unforunately, I see it being Utah St. TV may be the main reason in having quality teams for the later time slots. Don't get me wrong - I think they're a very fine team with a good RPI. HCGM would much rather have Butler returning a game and Utah is NOT his recruiting area. They're also going to be very tough to beat at home, maybe harder than VCU.
