  • Bummer

What a miserable, worthless pain in the butt. If this wasn't the most unsatisfactory loss in the last couple of seasons, it's exceeded only by the debacle in St. Louis.

Yes, this seems to happen every year: the Shocks lose one -- usually, although not necessarily always, on the road -- they shouldn't lose, to a team they ought to beat. So hopefully this is that game for this year. But still, what a costly game to blow. Now they're one game up on Creighton instead of three; two losses behind UNI instead of playing for a tie next week (talk about zero margin for error); and a useful (and probably overrated road win and resume enhancement), plus an RPI boost, was there for the taking and dropped.

And what a way to blow it, too. I didn't see past the first few minutes, because my wife and I had to go out (stupid 4 o'clock start time). So if WSU got homered -- and it's obvious from the box and play-by play summary that they were severely affected by fouls -- I missed it. But even if they did, 11-18 from the line for one of the nation's better foul shooting teams, including 5-12 from everyone but Hannah, isn't winning basketball. And a total of seven points (and seven shots) from Ellis, Blair, and Stutz in 58 combined minutes -- plus no free throws even attempted by those three or Durley -- has to make you wonder. Is this team really that totally dependent on Hannah for offense?

If the Shocks want to have a serious chance at an at-large spot in the NCAA (should they need it), this is the kind of game they need to win. The same is true of the next two as well (and probably also the Bracket Buster game and at least one of the road games at Bradley and SIU -- but first things first. Let's get the next two before worrying about those others).

    • There is one positive way of looking at this debacle. Creighton's "big" win for the year will be beating WSU . . . in Omaha. A game normally they "should" win.

We'll win in Omaha. Probably some down year for us when the team goes in there with nothing to lose.

      • I will say this about the refs. The continuation call earlier in the 2nd half on one of our fouls ended up being a huge difference, since we only lost by one. Thats just a blatant bad call. BUT with that said we can't do anything about it now. Our team needs to get pissed and go take care of business from now on. Tuesday's a good start.

creighton's big win involves beating a team wearing scarlet and cream. btw, from what i have read of that game the official sucked in it too.

You would think so, but there were more people at the WSU-CU game this year than the CU-Nebraska game. Our game was their largest crowd of the year and the 13th largest of all time.

Our game last year (WSU-CU) was the #1 largest crowd in their history.

It appears to me that beating us may be more important to them then beating the huskers.

Like we were that good in basketball on Dec. 28, 2008 (the date of last seasons WSU-CU game when the record was set).

the unique experience of living where i live affords me the confidence to make that comment. will say this win just saved a lot of creighton fans money on buying mavs apparel.

                      • Thought I might feel better when I woke up this morning....nope...still pissed.

We avoided a bad loss all season till yesterday....we now lost to a RPI killer and what I feel will be a play-in team in St Louis.....just sucks.
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
