David Kyles is a freak of nature. Garrett Stutz couldn't get his head that high if he was on a ladder.
I would beg to differ.
Okay.. okay.. if he was on a ladder.
Nice line by Stutzy though: 8 boards, 6 pts, 2blks. He isn't pretty, but he is effective. Three turnovers hurts, but I gotta believe he will learn how to hold onto the ball one day.
DK doesn't have the all-around game that Warren Armstrong had, but comparisons to Armstrong can be made. From what I've seen so far, Armstrong had a few more inches on his vertical than Kyles.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades. We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
Number three is Craig Stanley. According to Yahoo Sports he is 5-11 (71 inches tall). Based on that picture, I would guess that David Kyles is at a minimum of 34 inches off the ground at the time of the snap shot. If you watch the play over, he reaches the height of his jump right after the ball goes down and he would have hit his head on the backboard if he hadn't ducked. If a backboard is 9-6 (114 inches) off the ground and Kyles is 6-4 (75 inches) that puts him above 39 inches on the leap! That's a lot!
Technically, that wasn't a vertical leap as he had a running start. You will often hear about Player "X" that has a 42 inch + vertical, but usually that is more that they got that high with several steps. Kyles vertical (one step) may be much lower.

A vertical is a two-legged jump and some players don't jump so well off of two legs. Interesting point.
While we still didn't play a 'complete' game, at least the 2nd half was not such a letdown. Our depth just finally wore them out (and their lack of depth). Toure's confidence is definitely a little lacking from 3. He passed up several open looks early--something I hope he doesn't do against Bradley. His shot has been a bit inconsistent but sometimes the best way to get out of a slump is to try and take some shots.
Nice team effort. It wasn't 'pretty' but I suspect most fans (including myself) are pretty happy with the outcome. Good defensive effort overall.
I can't wait to see X and the boys Sunday. MTXE day should be a great time!
We just have to start caring more, from the get go. The pieces are in place, the coaching is there, all we need now is the dedication and the buy in.
I really hate to say it....but the throwing incident changed the game. I think Drake scored 3 points after that. Nevertheless, regardless of the sweet Shocker ensemble, that guy should lose his season ticket. Just no place for that, and I bet he realizes that as well.
Drake has MAYBE 3 D1 athletes....they have some good basketball players...but there is a reason we had 9 blocks today. The Geese are in for a LOOOOOOONNNNNGGGGGG season.
I have to echo Shockref on 2 things. Gregg's adjustment was a dagger. Of course, that's what happens when you recruit depth like he has. And I don't want to hear anything more about John Higgins being bad....he's outstanding, and he was great tonight. Sanzere is eh, whatever. I thought Mark Whitehead was in a bit over his head tonight. Higgins is great, and we don't see a better official all year, I promise you. I feel great when I see him take the floor.
Aargh took some heat elsewhere with some comments on Wedel. I'm certain he's a better shooter than he showed tonight, and he'll probably torch us for 30 in Des Moines, but he isn't a D1 athlete and we SHOULD eat him for lunch every time we face him. Again, there is a reason for the 9 blocks.
I'll bet Drake didn't force 5 of the 23 turnovers....if we take care of the ball, yikes that could have been REALLY ugly.
The nine blocks had something to do with Drake's shooting also. I don't know how many of the nine werre in the second half but there were several during the second half run. A couple of them were on 3's and we were flying at them. It had to affect their shots.
Drake had 5 field goals the second half. WSU had 6 blocks in the second half. If the bulldogs would have stepped outside they would have warmed up.
1949 against Oklahoma A&M (OSU) is the last time they scored fewer than 38 points. Hank Iba was coaching the Cowboys then. I think it was the second year of their back to back national championships.

He has developed a little bit of testiness to his game, which I like a lot.
He barked at the pygmy and I thought he might draw a technical. It was on the flop play in the first half. The pygmy gave Garrett a sharp look.
He is a big boy with the added weight. I remember Coach Marshall saying that he would weight 280 by the time he graduates.
"Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."
