Gabe Blair star of the game

      1. ISU(Red) was the better team

      2. Lack execution and shocks rushed shots and lost composure

      3. Shox didn't handle the physical nature of game

      4. Shockers are still a weak team in regards to physical play that occurs in the MVC. Maybe a little better than last year, but not good enough for the MVC.

      5. He think the guys might be disappointed

      6. You don't win on the road unless you play better than the home team

      7. Biggest, strongest team won.

      • They don't call him the "O Show" for nothing.
There is a valid reason he was the pre-season player of the year, mainly because... he is the best player in the league!

The coaches knew 'O' would get his. The point was to hold everyone else down.

Of course, some bad decisions going down the stretch didn't help the cause.

The real point is to let it go and not have a New Years hangover against Drake. They need to get back on track and wipe the floor with the Bulldogs on Friday. 8)
Above all, make the right call.

          • Trust me I'm happy with the win, but most of the moaning you heard from the Redbird faithful was because they thought several Shocker players were traveling. Thought the refs did miss a few calls that went against you guys, but not enough to turn the tide of the game. Murry hits those FT's to cut it to 8 with the possession after the intentional foul and this was a game again.

As I said, your team looked a bit slow and out of sync all night. Slow to loose balls, the trap that gave us fits last year in Koch was just a soft trap. I thought the 1-3-1 in the first half was a good adjustment, but then you guys went back to a man-to-man. Blair seemed to be the only guy who wanted to play hard, and the kid #24 and #31 brought a lot more energy to the game for WSU.

Seems we might have righted the ship after that dreadful loss @ Ohio U. The game vs. MSU will tell a lot about our team. Once again good luck Shox fans.

He also said that Illinois State was a more physical team than Pittsburgh, maybe even the most physical team in the MVC.

That was a terrible second half - came out flat to start and got progressivley worse.

No offense whatsover- hello shades of Mike Cohen and the ability to go for minutes at a time without a basket. the guys panicked when they were down by 6 - turnovers, poor shots, no rebounding.

Defense was step slow all night. slow to box out, weak with the rebounds - how many did we lose to a hand slap?

really disappointing but Marshall will get their full attention with this turd of a game

                • I looked at the box score from last year's game played there and we lost by the same amount 74-59. Toure' only had 4 points in that game, while Hannah and Ramon were the only ones in double digits.

Illinois State was 9-19 from 3 in that game, but Eldridge wasn't making them like he was tonight. We got outrebounded then as well.

I haven't looked at the box score for the game this year, but I'm guessing it's going to look similar.

                    • When Eldrige was clanking in 3s off the backboard, I knew we were in trouble.

When the white kid was making threes, I knew we were in big trouble.

                        • Was at the game tonight, definately a big win for my 'Birds, but in addition to some big performances the key tonight IMHO was our 2nd half defense. We really cranked it up and started forcing turnovers and hitting the glass harder. OE did a particularly good job on Murray, and so did Rubin in spurts. Our offense starts with our defense and fortunately we've become re-committed to that these past couple games. We started getting some stops on defense and that enabled us to push the tempo a bit and get into an offensive rhythm.

This game was a lot closer than the final score indicated though. I was impressed with the overall athleticism & shooting from many of your players, particularly Durley...didn't realize he could step out & show some range with confidence like that. We were able to put a very solid 2nd half together and that was the difference. A few plays changed the momentum and we were able to keep it. Things could've easily gone the other way. You guys have a very good team and the return game in Wichita is not one I'm looking forward to. Best of luck until we meet then!

                          • People don't get to upset, we learned alot tonight. We will beat them by ten at home. I think we learned more from this game than all the games we have played. Coach learned alot tonight about this team. Go Shockers!!

Disappointing, but in the grand scheme of things, hopefully another learning opportunity for these guys. Think they were feeling a little too good about themselves going into the game because this wasn't the same team we've seen all year.

                              • I'm not sure our non-conference schedule prepared us very well for the rigors of MVC play (especially on the road).

Our only true road games were Cleveland State and UMKC with very small crowds. Shocks also had the crowd advantage in KC vs Pitt and Iowa.

New Mexico drilled TT tonight 90-75 so it remains to be seen how good of a win that will be. It will be very tough for the Shocks to get an at-large bid unless they would dominate the MVC race and that does not look likely. In fact, after last night the 5th place prediction looks on target. That can change I suppose, but last nights game will have to prove to have been an aberration. We certainly played too soft and passive.

Here's hoping that last night proves to be a wake up call and that the team responds with a strong effort going forward.
