Top 3 finish looks tough after tonight.
    Ok, I'm done melting.

I thought we had a shot at a Top 3 finish before tonight. I also thought we were due for an "L" tonight.

People are right. We were an underdog for a reason tonight. Not many are gonna win in Normal. Now, could we have made a HUGE step up with the win? Absolutely. But I don't think a Valley opening loss at Illinois State means we can't eclipse the Top 3.

The only real frontrunner is UNI with their road win at sCUm.

MSU, SIU, and BU are doing things we should do too, so there is no real advantage there. But then again, if our road suckatude continues..
Nicely put. This still hurts though. I really hope they come out ready to go on Friday. I'm ready for some home court domination.

      • Having the first four Valley games in eight days means the ship can be righted and quick - or we have an opening swan dive like last year. Need to take care of business at home these next two and get our heads geared up for MoSt at their house next week. Win all your home conference games, win half the road games, and you should be in pretty good shape at the end of the season.

I'm sure HCGM will put them through the wringer tomorrow at practice...

        • Whoa there people! Where's all the happy go-lucky fans who thought we are a top 3 MVC team? We got our asses handed to us tonight thanks in-part to a very weak non-con schedule which didn't prepare this team for the huge grind we would face in the Valley.

I am no longer going with my 'gut' which put me right there with 99 percent of you who predicted a win. I knew better. The good thing is, we've got what - 17 more conference games left? Plenty of time to turn things around.

            • Agreed that Drake and Bradley needs to be disposed of quickly.. and then we can all get excited for the MSU roady in a week..

But seriously, we need to play just as good on the road as we do at home. This selfish ball and lack of effort will make this a middle-of-the-pack team, just like last year.

              ... No really, deuces.

              • Keys to the loss:

                1) Marshall not figureing out that Blair should be starting.
                2) Extremely poor box-out rebounding
3)A wimpy press that does nothing but let people find open men to pass to.
                4) Murray's entire game.
                5) Non-aggressive defense.

I still think a top 3 Valley finish is possible. As bad as tonight was, it's only one game. Now, we lose any of the next three at home (which should be wins) and lay another egg at Mo. State, then I'll be much more skeptical. There's a ton more basketball to be played. 16 more games. That's a LOT of basketball. Lots of opportunity to succeed or fail.

defintely a positive twist on tonight. The loss isn't what bothers me about tonight...it was our effort, defense, and rebounding. we didnt look like a team that believed tonight. almost as if we would just show up and win. Now they know....we are not that good. we will always have to 'show up'

                      • The key to winning the Valley isn't winning home games its winning homes games, all of the should win road games, and winning/stealing 2-3 toss-ups/upsets. I'm concerned about the lack of focus on road with HCGM's teams. Tonight should have been a win to 4-6 point loss, time for the kids to find a tree and do some Ranger push-ups to help them remain, errr find their road focus.

One game does not make a season but this lack of focus, especially on the road is troubling. I hope our Shocks use the next home games to get their groove back and find their road focus.

I agree completely. The funny thing is we were leading at halftime with all of that..

                          Seriously.. 25 second half points?

                          Pathetic.

                          • We should have lost by more than 15 tonight. Watching them play was brutal. So many poor decisions and missed bunnies underneath. Murry had a horrid game. We forgot how to rebound. Did I mention poor decisions? It's one thing to lose, but to do it playing like that is annoying as hell.

Osiris is a joy to watch though. Even if it is against the Shox. I love that guy. By far my favorite non Shocker.

I still think Aaron should start. Blair is a heck of an asset coming off the bench. I agree 100% on #2, #4 and partially on #5 (1st half was much better defensively). The press does well to try and keep most teams out of their rhythm by slowing them down and disrupting. It depends on hustle and awareness to make it work though, which is some of what we were lacking tonight. The press idea is good and has worked well for the most part this season and I think it's a nice weapon with our athleticism and length in most situations.

Get over it KC! Yes, we did stunk up THE SECOND HALF; however ONE player on Illinois St. caused much of this. A loss is a loss is a loss is a loss. BFD, we lost a friggin' game that the majority of us thought we would win. The sun will rise tomorrow. If you can't live with it, go follow KU (you probably do anyway); you'll be a happier person.
