  • Iowa Postgame Discussion

I am tremendously pleased that we won. Our defense (most of the time) was better. Shots were falling and our offense looked smooth (funny how that happens when we make baskets).

If Gabe Blair continues to play like he has been he is going to absolutely tear the MVC a new one. Gabe Blair is the kind of player that gets a team through the MVC and onto the Big Dance. He has speed, slashing ability, a nose for rebounds, great timing for blocks, and is unselfish. I want 9 more Gabe Blairs on my team.

Toure' Murry = Superstar! Like the color commentator said, "we could be seeing him playing at the next level (NBA) some day". He is a man amongst boys.

    Manigault - MIA

Clevin H. - I would have loved to play last night's game over today. The team plays at a very different level when this little spark plug enters the game. Lots of penetration and dishes for easy shots.

Demetric W. - Did anybody see that outstanding drive and finish toward the end of the game? P.O.T.E.N.T.I.A.L.

Kyles - Has a high gear that few players have. When he finds a way to shift down a bit at times he will be awesome!

J.T. - His post moves are blinding. He will be an auto-doubleteam every MVC game he plays. Great get Turgeon!

Hatch - He is going to get his points in the MVC. Only against the most athletic teams does he get used up. He has no fear and never stops working. He'll be fine.

Ellis - I love his size but he seemed to be a bit of a non-factor tonight. I haven't looked at the box score yet though. A quick 6'9" player that flashes out to the perimeter on D creates many problems that don't always show up on the statsheet though.

Stutz - Stutz hmmm... If he can protect the ball he should cause problems for MVC teams this year. I am VERY interested to see how he matches up against 'Eggslider' of N Iowa.

Gabe Blair - Have I mentioned how much I love this man?

We are twice as athletic compared to this time last year. If everything gels, this team competes with anybody on any given night. The drive by DW was BIGTIME. Add another athletic guard into the mix!

We are setting up to have the best front court in the Valley - both our starters and our bench guys might be the best 2-man front court combo in the league.

Dillard better have one heck of a year if he wants to defend his FoY performance last year. Murry could contend for all-Valley and the Valley has a lot of good guards.

Wing is our weakest spot on the court? Hatch seems like he'll be able to handle it in league play.

I'm feeling better about my top 3 projection. The Shox could go into St. Louis with maybe 5 or 6 losses. Suellentrop's prediction of 23 W's is looking solid - even if post-season play isn't included.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

        We look like a contender.

But contenders carry over their play onto the ROAD.

I'm not gonna judge this team until we can prove we can away from friendly confines. Hopefully this starts Saturday.

Don't get me wrong though. I was very impressed about tonight. But God, Iowa is not the best measuring stick IMO.
        Deuces Valley.
        ... No really, deuces.

That was very awesome leaving the game tonight. The players were very excited and showed their appreciation to the fans as they left the court by waving to the crowd.

This was a very bad Iowa team, but the way the Shox played last night we had to see how they would respond...against ANYONE. They responded the way I would have hoped. Clevin makes a WORLD of difference against bigger and stronger teams than FDU..etc.

Way to go Shox! I'm leaving KC a happier person than I was last night!

Iowa is not a great team but they are big 10, they have a great coach and they took it to Texas, maybe the best team in the country last night for one half.

Now is the time to become an Iowa fan and hope that they start getting some wins. That could be a big help to us in Feb.

UNI? I was thinking the Hickory Huskers.

That style played well in the 50s. Not so much in the new millennium.

I'm with you on that! Honestly I think the 1st half of the game against Texas was about as good as they can play and about as long as they can play that good. Hope they win the rest though, I'm ok with that!

Iowa didn't have anyone as good as Ahelegbe or Koch.

Not too many teams will hang with Texas for a half this year..

WSU has an exciting team this year. They seem well coached and run some good sets. Also, Murray is one of those players you just love to watch, anyone think he can take it to the next level?
