In the 1st half when Hannah was around 0-7, I kept thinking Chamberlin would play more. I actually enjoyed seeing those 2 in the game later at the same time. However, with the emergence of Toure', that combination may not be real common with the 2 Juco guards both in the same line- up. Hannah shot around 80% on free-throws at Juco last Season but sure struggled tonight. As the Season progresses, I look for us to shoot at least 75% as a team from the stripe.

Why is it that Clemente and Hatch were able to make several nice entry passes each to Stutz, and the rest of the guards never even look inside? This is a bad, bad team right now, and I have no reason to be optimistic. If they continue to make zero progress (like last year), I'm going to begin to wonder if Marshall is in over his head. I know we are young, but so was UMKC. Why did they look like wily veterans compared to us?

Last season's huge injury problems put Ramon in a leadership role right off, and he's lived up to every inch of it. He has a feel for the game that only Hatch seems to share. Graham is very conscious of where he needs to be on plays, and usually finds his opportunities, if the PG only noticed him spotting up. This is further evidenced by his entry passes to Stutz, well-placed and in rhythm with the offense. Make him as much of a threat off the drive as any of UMKC's players were tonight, and he'll be a major matchup problem for most teams because he can make buckets and plays, not just either or.
Hannah, Chamberlain and Hawkins were streetballin' all night and it was disgusting. Murray actually tried to run an offense, but was operating in crisis mode, so it wasn't in the full system. He's the only new guy I'm impressed with so far. Has the speed, control, and patience that will make him a great player (I think a more deliberate Mario Chalmers).
I really don't like what I saw, and I hope it changes.
Also, I implore that you old hands don't get bent out of shape for me bringing up a KU player. I understand the animosity that built up in days past, but my knowledge bank only includes contemporary college players, so I'll have to use some new names instead of the old favorties.
P.S.: Anyone know when the last WSU/KU bball game occurred? High school buds who became Jayhawks and I were wondering. Thanks

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Against a smaller team, we are silly not to play Stutz more than 14 minutes. If we need Hatch or Clemente to be our assist leader, so be it; keep them on the floor. If we need to play zone, then play zone to protect Hatch. (Do you remember MSU's Blake Ahern? His defense could have been better and he was slow but he played a bit for the Miami Heat last year. UMKC was afraid of Hatch's shooting last night. Can't we take advantage of our strengths and mask our weaknesses?)Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:

n8 - I'd be happy to discuss your question regarding the WSU/KU series, but please start another thread so we don't derail any more comment about the game that might be still be going on.

As far as the Stutz foul goes... The official signaled a foul on the block attempt. Any and all body contact was initiated by the shooter jumping back and into Garrett. Why reward the shooter for being an idiot? I've never understood how some officials seem to do that way too much.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

I wondered why we didn't substitute during the last free throws, to give ourselves 4 long distance shooters and Ramon to pick. Also thought we'd have a sub at the table during Stutz's free throw to set up a press, although he missed the back end, so it wouldn't have mattered. Certainly I'm no coach, and I can no longer afford to stay at the Holliday Inn.

I wouldn't call the whole team out and say no progress is being made because of a loss. You can look at a number of players and see progress. You can also look at a number of players and see that they regressed in this game. - Hopefully, this situation will be corrected - but it is just the very beginning of a season - that we all knew would be a long season to begin with - or are we forgetting that already?
