I like the scrimmage idea. You don't really pay for the exhibition game in the season tickets anyways. You get all the regular season games and the exhibitions are an added bonus.

Scrimmage to Replace Exhibition Game

I'm struggling to see why anyone thinks this is anything but a good thing.
No reason I've seen to the contrary holds any water, other than the fact that we'll get to see one less pud game against a pud team that we would of blown out if we got only half of our offensive sets and defensive assignments correct, and wouldn't of seen the stands full anyway. The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

GM is trying to coach his extremely young team and give WSU fans a great product to watch when it really counts. This is not something you make sense of or understand, just work with the man.You still get an exhibition game out of the deal.I'm anxious too to see the new team but I understand that coaches are having more success with this format. The competition against another high level D1 program will build more confidence than blowing out some team put together the day before the game. This is a talented team of true Fr and inexperienced Soph and that's what GM feel this team need. This move is more about building confidence, developing that swaggar going into The Old Spice Classic ,you can bet Georgetown will have it.That's my perspective and I'm out..

The MAJOR reason for the exhibition games is money. In fact, I would suspect it is the top 3 reasons. GM mentioned that they did not draw particularly well at Winthrop, therefore, there was not much revenue lost by not having exhibition games. If WSU did not pack 10,000+ for an exhibition game, this would be a non issue. Apparently, the new AD thinks WSU can do without at least 1 exhibition game's worth of revenue.
The rest of the reasons supporting an exhibition, (anything not related to money) do not hold any water. I base this statement on GM's actions regarding exhibition games.

MattDalt, WSU isn't losing much revenue at all by not having an extra exhibition game. Season tickets are going to be virtually sold-out again this season and the price that we paid for our tickets this year didn't go down due to having one less exhibition game. The only real revenue loss that I can see will be from concessions and from the student tickets that could be picked up by the public. If having a closed practice is what Coach Marshall thinks is better for the team then I am all for it.

I, on the other hand, would rather see the top 8 or 9 players play, and play well. The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

This ultimately comes down to selfish reasons as to why people think it is a bad idea. Selfish because they want to see another game.
Like was mentioned, tickets are already sold out. They aren't gonna lose much money and this could benefit the team much more than playing the Traveling Circus Clowns teams of the world. This is a time for the team to learn under a structured environment against people that they haven't been practicing against.

Ultimately, it is what it is. No amount of us complaining is going to change it (particularly this season). I'm just going to trust that our coach knows what he's doing and this is not a rash decision on his part.
If having a scrimmage helps us get out of the gate this season quicker or stronger, then I'm all for it. Sure, I'll miss getting to watch it, but perhaps in the long run, we'll get to add some games to the END of the schedule to make up for it in March. I'd much rather watch one of those games anyway--even though they wouldn't be at Koch Arena.
