I'm sure the media is also not allowed. I found a NCCA 2006 rule proposal on the topic. Don't know if it passed, but sure something similar is in the books: "Individuals other than athletics department staff members and those necessary to conduct basketball practice scrimmage against outside competition may not be present during such a scrimmage. The institution shall ensure that the scrimmage is free from public view." The scrimmage must also be conducted without official scoring.
Supporting that media cannot be present was an article on the net about Albany's scrimmage last year with Long Island. All the info came from Albany's coach since the media was not present. A point was made that the coach could not talk about scoring and stats.
I doubt if many teams, including WSU want to go far for a scrimmage due to costs. So perhaps it will be K-State if they have been doing this. Compared to where Marshall came from, the number of nearby schools wanting a scrimmage might make finding a team pretty difficult if indeed distance is a factor. In the fast lane

My guess is, as a scrimmage, it will be a team that's closer rather than further away. A short bus drive, most likely.
My guess is also that, as a closed door scrimmage, it's a team that doesn't want to play us with open doors.
That opens up about 4, maybe 5 schools within a 2.5 hour drive. The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

I can certainly see why a controlled scrimmage would have appeal to a coach. A chance to stop play when desired to re-run something, etc. Plus you are playing against a much higher caliber opponent that will give you a more realistic evaluation as to whether something is working/will work or not.
Exhibitions are fun for fans, but I've often wondered how much a coach really can learn from those games. Usually the disparity in talent is so great that any sort of evaluation is pretty fruitless IMO.

This doesn't make any sense to me.
If you're going to bring a talented squad all the way to Wichita, then why not sell some tickets, and count the darn thing.
2. It is very likely that we will be able to scrimmage against a BCS school or mid-major power that would never dream of setting foot inside Koch for a game that counts.
3. It is against the rules to allow fans to observe the scrimmage. HCGM brought this up when discussing scrimmages last year. No fans, no tickets, just the teams and coaches. I am not sure if media is allowed.
2. That's a poor excuse. Bring somebody here that's in our ballpark (program-wise). We don't need a top 10 team here.
3. Make it a regular season game.
I still think it's a stupid idea, just my opinion.

Put me down as being against it.
It will cost WSU revenue from the exhibition game. The players would have a chance to play and gain some confidence. There would be another chance to get used to the refs before the real season starts. One less game could lead to a drop in fan support. You have to pay the same amount of money for one less game.
For these reasons I'm not supportive of this change. If you added this without eliminating an exhibition game, I would be more in favor of it.
