Dan - I don't remember which one it was, Murry or Kyles, but one said the main reason he was coming here was because he felt he could play right away. Probable not a redshirt candidate, at least in his mind.

I think Kyles and Murry will both play 10-15 minutes if not more depending on how things go.

Stutz will play 15-20. If Ehimen gets here I'm not sure how the PT will play out. One may be able to redshirt if we sign another big. (JUCO)

Obviously I definitely expect to see the frosh play this year and not just a little. I don't expect any of them to dominate and be the leading scorers on a consistent basis but they WILL contribute.

This is how I see the regular playing rotation, with minutes in (x)

PG: Hannah (26), Chamberlain (8), Kyles (6)
SG: Chamberlain (20), Murry (14), Kyles (6)
SF: Hawkins (28), Ellis (12)
PF: Clemente (24), Griskenas (8), Ellis (8)
C: Durley(22), Griskenas (10), Stutz (8)

Assumptions: No Wendell, EO, walk-ons with occasional mop-up

That's a 10 man rotation- maybe too many. If we go with an 8 man rotation, I see Kyles and Stutz getting less minutes. Freshman big men RARELY live up to the crazy expectations of fanbases (save Michael Beasley or top 10 talent).

Durley averaged 15 minutes per game last year. 17 times last year he played more than 15 mins. He will get smarter and stronger.

Hannah, Chamberlain, and Hawkins start at the 1, 2, 3 and average close to 30 minutes a game.

Kyles, Murry, and Ellis come off the bench and play 5-15

Clemente starts at the 4 and averages 20-25 mpg.

Gris (and Ellis) back up Clemente. Gris plays 15 a game.

The center position is up for grabs! Clemente, Durley, Stutz, and EO (if he makes it here) will all get some time. Ellis MAY be able to play here if he puts on about 30lbs (doubtful). My guess is that Durley, Stutz, and EO will split time here with the winner of the job averaging no more than 20 minutes a game and the third stringer averaging no less than 7. My hope is that JTD will improve his D to the point where he can start and Stutz/EO will have the opportunity to get experience. This would set up nicely for 09-10 when EO, Stutz, Durley, Ellis can be the four guys down low for us.

This sets up an 11 man rotation (too many) but by keeping the four best players on the floor for so much time I think it works out nicely. I fully expect there to be many nights in which Stutz/EO only see mop up duty, but many more where they see significant PT...much like the freshman center at KU this past year.

I think some of you are giving the incoming freshmen too little credit. They may be some of the most athletic and skilled frosh we've seen in some time. Kampman, Burns, and Howard averaged 25 minutes each their 1st year, Miller 20 his 1st after redshirting. JP 22 after his redshirt and SO 18 minutes in his 1st. Skipping some of the past super stars in their frosh season, Perez averaged 12.1 points, D. Williams 8.1, Sherrod 11.0, Santos 9.7 and 4.7 rbs, Arnold 11.7 and 9 rbs, and Radunivich 11.6 points and 7.3 rbs. I think it may be more of a real credit to our returning and JC players if these freshmen play less than 15 to 20 minutes.

Not trying to be 'negative', but to me, JT has a lot to proove before he'd get many minutes in my book. I was never convinced last year that his defense is anywhere near good enough to be logging many minutes. He was lucky to get as many minutes as he did--even on a team that was HURTING for healthy post players/forwards.

Now, that's not to say I don't want to be hopeful that he'll step up his effort and his concentration in all aspects of his game, but to me--he's still an unknown quantity.

Too bad too. He even had a redshirt year, so you'd think that part would be behind him.

C'mon JT--we need you. We'd all love to see what you can TRULY do with your game.

So far, we've yet to see that.

I agree with you 25. JT was lucky to get the minutes he did due to his lack of effort. Had we had any kind of depth available he'd have spent even more time on the pine.

Now, he has a ton of potential and ability if he can just understand that. JTs problem is between his ears and in the center of his chest. IF he ever gets it we'll all see some great things. I'm hoping Clemente can have a positive influence on him this summer and we see a new and improved JT.

I could be wrong but I thought Marshall mentioned several times late in the season that Ellis will be more of a 4 than a 3. Thats also where he ended up playing a lot at the end of the year. Besides with his length and rebounding ability and with Hawkins at the 3 for the next 2 years why wouldn't he play more at the 4 than 3?

Exactly. We have three PFs (Ramon, Mantas, Aaron). If we had a little more depth at the 3 (a juco SF?), we could possibly afford to give Ellis that redshirt.

I still expect him to play both. We don't really have an option to back up Hawkins and Griskenas is going to play the 4 and back up Ramon. Things can change as can the makeup of the roster, but at this point I don't see Ellis as a pure 4 and nothing but a 4.

Sure but given the fact that Grisk will be coming off injury and J.T. isn't afraid to admit he is lazy :( I think Ellis will end up with more minutes at the 4 than the 3 next year. Simply due to the need for him there.

I can't recall but I believe A.J. averaged around 32 minutes a game if not more his sophomore year at st. bon. (again I may be off on that). Anyways point being that he suck up 32-35 mins a game as Marshall seems to keep guys in much longer than Turg did. So if he is in good enough shape and is smart with his fouls there may not be many minutes left for the backup SF.

Heck P.J. averaged 32.3 this year and he had several games where he was in foul trouble.

I don't think the knee is going to hold Griz back. He's already about to the point of really starting to test it and will be ready to go by the start of classes in the fall if not sooner. And between the two he's probably the better option as a PF at the moment.

But either way, Ellis can present a problem for whoever's defending him at either postion and that's something I really like about him.
