The pickup games this summer will be interesting no doubt, but the battle involving the guards will be the most interesting. In their minds they all are expecting to come in and start and they all have the talent to do so.We know they all will be a big part of the building something special but HCGM made them all feel the same when he recruited them.Kyles and Murry are long and athletic where Hannah and Chamberlain are on the small side with a slight advantage in experience.Watching these four go at it will be fun because everytime they step between the lines will be for status, just like a litter of pups, where play is really not play.Someone mentioned how they will pair up, each fr getting a pure pg to run with. However, what if the two fr come in and show up bigtime, what does HCGM do then.WSU is starting to look like some of the major programs around the country where this scenario takes place every year.Just a thought.

Wouldn't that be a nice problem for WSU to have though? :posterwsu:

Didn't HCGM say that if two players are about the same, he would choose the younger player?

Who starts - or more importantly, who is in at the end of games - at Center?

I have to think Stutz will be the guy at the start of the season - and possibly even at the end of the season.

On that topic, GM said Orukpe would play last year even if he arrived for only the second semester. Now that there's an option at Center, does Orukpe possibly get a redshirt year to adjust to NCAA ball and life in America?
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Pardon my stupiditiy, but when and where are these pickup games you speak of? Do they just play against each other, or do players from other schools or former players play? I would like to try to watch sometime.

At Charles Koch Arena. Usually around 5pm I think. Most, if not all, of the current roster should be there. Sometimes some of the local HS talent shows up and plays. Former players do sometimes come back and play some.

HCGM is building a basketball culture where everyone has to bring their best everyday, weather its the 2mile run or shooting drills or running line sprints and my favorite box out drills. He has brought in some tremendously talented kids, true gym rats who love the game and they all will be given the responsibility of making each other better. These are his type of kids.Notice, they all have a chip on their shoulder for whatever reason and before he's done they will be battle tested. Competition in practice will get a team ready very quick. This competition will be so heated that when they play another team its going to feel like a day off.Shocker fans don't be alarmed if you hear about a squabble or two on the court it's common with this type of talent and almost welcomed.HCGM has done this before and it breeds winners.I for one am ready for the ride.Go Shockers.

I know JT has the tools to play a major role next year. I question his heart.
Mantas has battled thru a second knee and will be a senior figthing for time.
Add Ramon whose heart is hugh and if he finds a way to avg 9-10 pts a game
will demand a large amount of pt making JT the 3rd option at the 4 spot.
And I haven't even got to Aaron Ellis who will play 3/4.

My point is that JT received some time last year as a gift. That will not happen this year.

Since all of the freshmen and Juco player are to be
enrolled in Summer School they will be here by June 1. I suspect the pickup games will start about then.

                    • I thought that was optional whether they enrolled for summer school or not, or is it a requirement by the coaching staff for new schollies?

Marshall has basically said it's something he requires. I'm not sure if the guys that have been here have to take classes, but I know he's said they're required to stay in Wichita to work and play with the rest of the team so they can be more prepared when the real practices start..

I kinda thought this was SOP for most D1 coaches. I guess I'm surprised to find out that Turgeon never required (or, for the PC crowd, "strongly recommended") such a thing.

Up here, I know that the guys are enrolled for summer classes and play in the Omaha summer league as well as the regular pickup games. BTW, is there a Wichita summer league?

Marshall was pretty shocked when he found out it wasn't "strongly recommended" by the previous staff as well. There's no real summer league in Wichita. Not a worthwhile one anyways. I know PJ played in KC last year. I'm not sure if anyone else did. But I believe there are rules about how far from school or your hometown you can go to play in one. At least I've heard something like that before. Never really looked into it though.

                            • HCGM was also surprised when he found out Turgeon did not require summer school attendance and pickup games, weight lifting and conditioning. He did at Winthrop.
