Actually, it looks like we were 1.5 pt underdogs by opening tip against Iowa in 2012 - scratch that one off the list.

Confirmed we were favored (handily) in the Guardians Classic in 13 and Diamondhead Classic in 14 though.

That's a rather weird statement following a comparison that showed WSU severely lacking relative to Gonzaga. I could do a comparison of Drake vs Gonzaga in these tournaments. Just the mere *doing* the comparison doesn't equal a positive statement about a team.

Juco transfers are unpredictable. Some can adjust right from the get go but most take a half season or so to really hit their stride at the D1 level. I'm guessing that most top 25 opponents aren't in our position to have to rely on newcomers to make a substantial impact in their very first few NCAA games like we have been in the past.

It could very well be construed as troll bait. It kind of seemed like it to me.

But I could just as easily cherry-pick a topic such as: which teams have the best record, won/loss over the last 5 years? Road record? Where are our beloved Shocks? Top 3? Where are the chickens? That is the stat sheet of choice for me.

Shox have been great overall for nearly a decade.
Shox have struggled in early season exempt tournaments.

Clearly, discussing this on a WSU message board is out of bounds, and pure trolling. No way a fan could find this topic of actual interest.

Michigan State's Freshmen have averaged more minutes than all of WSU's newcomers (all classes combined) so far this year.
LSU's Freshmen + their 1 transfer (Jr) have averaged more minutes than WSU's newcomers.
Yes, WSU plays more Juco transfers than most top 25 teams, but many top 25 teams give their Freshmen more minutes than the Shox tend to do. I'm not so sure the newcomer angle is applicable here to describe the Shocker's woes.

Shox have been great overall for nearly a decade.

I'm just astonished when I see all of the license plates, the caps, and jackets, and most of all the WSU shirts that one sees everywhere. A decade ago, it was had to spot any at all.

My two reasons for our "woes" (which is a really silly word for not winning these tournaments). System complexity and {end goal > early goal}.

Exempt tournaments are nice and all, but if success in them will limit the team's ability at the end of the season then that success is worse than pointless. How the team plays in Coach's system is more important than allowing players to rely upon talent and get quick results yet end up with a lower ceiling. After watching Marshall take talent year after year and make them better than anyone believed ... I would say what he is doing is correct.
