Especially if Shaq is supposed to be a leader on the team. I cant see a scenario where Fred would have chosen to sit if he was healthy, hell he didn't want to sit when he wasn't during the closed scrimmages last year.

    • I liken this to when Malcolm Armstead took himself out of a game so that Fred would get some extra minutes. If that was leadership, there's no reason Shaq choosing to sit can't be viewed that way, as well.

      • We have no idea how HCGM put the question--maybe he encouraged people to sit by saying it would be a great chance to get more experience for the new guys or whatever.

        • Maybe Shaq and Rashard ate some bad poutine and they were pooping their brains out.

Maybe Shaq and Rashard's shoulders hurt from carrying around adorning fans on their shoulders in an epic pool battle of chicken at the hotel.

Anyone else have any other realistic assumptions on this topic?

The new guys got more minutes that Shaq the day before. Listen im not saying it couldnt be him being unselfish but the timing is odd. In HCGM we trust!

Nah; I think you've got the two most likely scenarios.

My guess is they were helping Mike Kennedy figure out how to plug in the wires for the radio broadcast at the last second.

                  • Paul mentioned that the Shocks were still having trouble preventing drives to the basket for scores. That will have to improve and no doubt it will but I wonder if 3G might throw a little more zone into the mix this year? Yeah, I know, when hell freezes over.

Good Spin. So what you are saying is that Shaq and Rashard were showing leadership and the remainder of the veterans were being selfish? :)

Also, consider this would mean them playing a game every single day for 5 straight days. And especially since Shaq seems to run out of gas quicker than anyone, I can easily see him electing to sit out a last minute game. Plus as others have said, the new guys get some more experience.

The 5 straight days idea I could understand except that Shaq played all of about 6 minutes Sunday. He probably gets more work on a free throw drill than in that game. I'm not saying there aren't legitimate reasons for those guys to sit (I don't know). But I don't think that's a good one, at least not as far as Shaq is concerned.

Let's see..the remainder of veterans were, Conner who is playing a new postion, Nurger who needs to prove himself, Brown who is probably in a real fight to keep his playing time at the 3, and I wouldn't call Hamilton or Shamet veterans. Did I miss somebody?
