  • Bring em out/Sirius/Intro Issues

My wife and I have been going to games for the past 4 years. The one major complaint we have is the way the intro video/music goes. Last year was probably the most depressing version of it. The song that played with the player walking past Shocker videos was just slow and blah. The point of an intro is to get the crowd fired up.

However this year, you have the bring em out song, which is peppy and upbeat. Then it slows to a crawl by playing the Sirius song. Does the marketing department do any research on this? It just seems very disjointed. Surely I am not the only person that notices this.

Thinking of the continued toughness of Marshall's teams year after year and his mentions of the players going hard on D like a pack of wolves ... I want a remix of this song: https://youtu.be/3M-ZdxlDgz0 and the video to be the best from previous teams and then end with this year's players.

It's suboptimal, but, given the problems of past years, I'm not complaining. It's the first time since Intake Studios began doing videos that they've at least had music with steady beats so that a large crowd could clap in unison to them. They're great at video, but they only think about the lyrics and message of a accompanying music as it relates to the visuals. They don't understand the theater of the event nor the importance of getting a crowd fired up together.

Similarly, we've had Pep Band drummers in the past who've increased tempo gradually on the tipoff sequence and taken it to a tempo that's unsustainable. Fun for them -- but it destroys the raw power of 10,500 people clapping in unison while they fish around trying to reestablish the beat. This year they're doing a better job at plateauing at a tolerable tempo.

I believe this is important because the crowd is at its most effective as a force in the game at the start, when the opposition hasn't adjusted to it yet.
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

I don't know the best way to fix it, all I know is that it has bothered me more this year and last year. It also drains the energy when Bring em out is playing and the other team rolls out at that time as well. Just seems there could be a better way to bring it all together.

          I notice.

Yes, considering the money flowing into the MBB program, the audio-visual side of things often feels more like it is permanently stuck in a gear more fitting the balance of the MVC. Some years are better than others, as WSU did win a pretty significant award in this regard three (?) years ago (where did the people who earned that go?), but in general the crowd atmosphere A-V stuff is mediocre at best.

Intake Studios does the major videos (pre-game tunnel, intro, halftime tunnel), under contract for WSU. They're a legit company, ran by WSU alums, and they do work for some big companies. In general they do nice work, but IMO this year's stuff is nothing to get excited about, as the music choices are just all over the place. I think the entire game production side of things could be drastically improved if they just subbed the whole thing out to a firm like Intro, but even then I'm not sure, as Intro seems to maybe not get the music side of it either.

I miss the hallway history videos. Three years ago it had Orupke it in, then two years ago it was Baker, and then last year was Cotton. Even in this context, the Orupke and Baker videos were nice, but the music choice last year with the Cotton video was really strange, and I think they only played it a couple of times.

Even the GoShockers YouTube channel is totally spastic. Some years they post up all the video stuff Intro Studios has made, other years it is like they totally forget or don't care.

Let's not even go down the road talking about the stuff being put up on the GoShocker's YouTube channel this year that opens with the slick and professional looking "WATCHUS" opening screen, that's immediately followed (who knows why... seems redundant) by some "brought to you by goshockers.com" screen that honest-to-God looks like something someone whipped together with Word and Clipart over their lunch break.

I could go on and belabor, but suffice to say WSU's overall in-game production is not at the same level as the product on the floor.

I've thought they either need to get Randy Burns to write a Shocker intro song, or cut a portion of his hook from his Nets song.

Every Goshockers video I've watched that got put on ESPN only has 1 channel of audio too. Its Left ear only if you are using a headset. Several times I had my right earbud in and couldn't figure out why I had no sound.

I know this is going to be taboo but our brother to the North of us has a pretty ruckus atmosphere before the opening tip. I' not sure if it is always the same but it is like a dubstep/ techno type of song. really upbeat and just gets everyone going. I like the band and what they bring to the game but sometimes I just don't think we are able to get the full effect of CKA.

Just an observation from a younger fan and college student. I would agree too that some of the song choices that are made are sometimes not the best and timing is not always the best either. One game I remember here recently they played Bring Em Out with like 4:30 5 mins before tip and so about half the song was played before the team even came out. thought that was a little dragged out and lost its luster when the team finally came out.

This just absolutely made me feel less computer illiterate. My speakers at work only have the right speaker working, so when they are showing commercials, I hear it, but then when it actually goes into the video, it's silent. Must because it's going to the left speaker that does not exist.
