I don't know if Jamar Howard for Prez will notice it but the haslametrics say the Shocks are one of the very elite teams. He always talks about the elite teams but he won't mention who he thinks are elite.
NOTE for Jamar - If you need help, read this. :)
    ANALYSIS:
Wichita State is one of the very elite teams in college basketball. They have a record of 14-5 and are ranked fourth overall (out of 351) in the latest Haslametrics ratings.

Good grief @shockmonster:. How many times do I need to post my list before you will read it?

2015-16 (to date) - Grady, Morris, Nurger, Wamukota: 13.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per 40 minutes of playing time
2014-15 - Carter, Morris, Nurger, Wamukota: 16.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per 40 minutes of playing time
2013-14 - Carter, Lufile, Coleby: 13.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per 40 minutes of total playing time
2012-13 - Hall, Lufile, Orupke: 12.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per 40 minutes of total playing time

Methodology: Total points/rebounds scored by the group / total minutes played by the group * 40 (calculations not guaranteed).

UNI kind of did a comparable thing to the Shockers. They decided they were not going to let Fred beat them like he did Indiana State and they worked hard to get the ball out of his hands and keep him out of the lane. Our post committee contributed 15 points and 8 rebounds in 40 minutes which was about what they have averaged this year. In this particular game Ron and Markis stepped up and the Shockers depth contributed mightily as the Shockers bench outscored the Panthers bench 30-2. Fred ended up with 12 points but half of those were on the 2 late treys.

So I guess this shows that teams come in with a game plan to take away or limit certain things but it is difficult to take away everything.

The stats seem to indicate that this year's post by committee group is comparable to what we have been putting on the floor in recent years as a group.
When you have a balanced and deep team with multiple offensive weapons, it is extremely difficult for another team to neutralize that many options. We slaughtered SIU by taking away their only major weapon--Beane--and won comfortably.

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Speaking of punched in the mouth, give SN 100.00 for every elbow and blow Bake has got in 4 Seasons, every fall on a layup for FVV, and every floor burn Wessel has got (he is so tough he blow dries his hair with a blow torch on high) both in practice and games and could have a SN party to remember. The signs of a solid team of warriors is one that was picked 4th in the Valley and lands in the Final 4 with as many or more injuries that Season as this one.

Now looking at this Season, with the unexpected setback with injuries, and now piecemealing our team back together, how will the script play out from here? If and when Shamet returns, we finally will have the pieces of the puzzle in Feb. we thought was already "all systems go" back in Oct. With Shamet, talk about a balanced team. Without Shamet, don't count us out because we still have more room for improvement and peaking between now and the Dance.

With that said, we have plenty of challenges left before us which will determine who and where we play. We usually receive some dandy brackets, but I digress. Even so, right now, one game at a time, and we must keep improving as a team each step of the way. Many teams would have folded up the tent with the injuries we already had back when we made the Final 4 and now too. Our Shocks are a close-knit group and are back on target to the goals and aspirations they had before all of the adversity came knocking. Each time the bell rings, the Shocks will come out swinging.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

This made me think today. EVERY picture I see of Ron, he has his tongue out. With how often he get hit in the face, I'm amazed he hasn't bitten it off by accident.

How about when the big #44 came into the Louisville game. He knocked Baker down and accidently popped him in the chops on the way down. The announcer broke away for a commercial saying he thought Bake would be shooting flagrant throws when we return with the Shocks also getting the ball. What happens? A double foul is called. Really? Worst call ever until soon thereafter.

We inbound the ball, Hall jumps straight up to receive the pass. #44 who should had already fouled out, jumps into Hall who is in mid-air, knocks him back and down. Grabs the loose ball with Hall on the hardwood, and passed to their quick guard for their first Louisville surpass in a long while. Now that is the way to win ball games, especially when such abuse of the rules are allowed or missed. I had folk who are not Shocker fans make mention in astonishment to me about those two indecorous game changers. #44 was hustling, trying to win a game, and his rugged play was rewarded. It happens and we still could have won and had our chances. Our Players and Coaches gave it their all and that's all we can logically ask.

I don't know if we'll match the final ratings of the 2014 squad (8 off, 12 def, #5 overall), but I'd be willing to bet $100 of Doc's money that we'll end up in the Kenpom top 10 at seasons end, with 15 off and 15 def ratings.

Our offense has a bit of work to do yet, but I'm feeling pretty smart about this.:subdued:

If you are that confident to bet some of Doc's money then I would be willing to bet your left nut that you are correct.

We certainly have room for improvement in a couple of areas, we rank 176th in the nation in 3pt FG percentage and 186th in the nation in FG percentage. Our proficiency to play solid D, get rebounds and make assists are our bread and butter, we're not too bad at team FTs either. In March however, we're going to need to ramp up our offense shooting percentage a tad bit to make a deep run. Got to get hot and streaky at the right time.

WSU moved up a spot due to Texas A&M losing badly at Vandy last night. WSU is now #10 overall in KP.

I wonder what those numbers are if you take out Orlando. Not great, I'm sure, but probably way better.
