  • I was looking for who among the frosh and sophs could make an impact along with Grady.
Disappointed so many didn't play. Of those that did I was most impressed with Nurger. I'd
like to know what his wingspan is. Big body and long arms. Was VERY active on defense
and had a very nice left handed post up basket. RK looks more confident and stronger.
Pleased with Shamet all around and liked Taylor's pesky defense. Mixed emotions about both
MM and EH. Need to see more.

    • I was ok with the MC. It was better than the dead time we usually have. He was just trying to give the place a little energy between events...etc. I have been to many shocker madness events and usually the place has a LOT of dead moments. Just sucks the energy out. This was similar to the MC guy they had for College Gameday.

I appreciate their attempt to keep the energy level up.

        Feves - you are welcome.

I have nothing against CF as long as he doesn't embarrass the university . I hope he Ka-Booms every team we play.

But we came to see the new guys and see what impact they potentially make during this season. The two new guys who have the greatest chance to make an impact this year is CF and Grady - unfortunately Grady didn't play so the focus has to go to CF. CF shot almost lights out in the 3pt contest, but was less than impressive on the court. He handled the point fine, don't recall any turnovers. He had two shots rejected when he went into the trees, 3pt shot was off during the scrimmage and struggled to hit anything, and gave up 1/3 of the points that were scored against his team. Facts are facts and seem to follow the narrative on him - he can shoot, he can run point if needed, but he stills needs to get better on the D side.

          • LOts of athletes on this team with vertical talent. Landry is the real deal, long, great ball handler, super quick and appears to be fearless. Hamilton is a man child, going to get some time on the court. Nurger, and Kelly look alot stronger. Kelly iss going to be a major player, looked real comfortable on tthe floor, as did Nurger. Mcduffie is going to be a big time player, needs to add some weight, but no doubt he will. Lot of the major minute players sat out, but was still fun to see some of the new faces. Conneeeer has a sweet whot as he ran away with the 3pt contest, and seemed to really handle the ball well in the scrimmage. Ron looked like a pro, he's ready for the next step.... Really excited for the season to begin, we look like a top ten team and a major player

            • I believe all of Frankamp's 3s during the scrimmage were off the dribble. Baker can hit those, CF can't. When Fred is the one setting up his shots I have much more faith in CF nailing them. CF looks to have decent handles and being able to drive and score and being able to hit 3s off the dribble would be nice, but I will take him being a spot-up shooter and occasionally being able to score off the drive.

note: this is my opinion based solely on Shocker Madness, it's not like I ever watched him play at KU

              • Keep in mind that Baker was guarding CF. ;) and vice versa. ;)

                  • This was my 1st Shocker Madness as I moved here 3 months ago - as advertised & a big teaser till the season begins. Thanks to Ta Town Shocker for the invite. I felt like all the pub 3G said about CF being the greatest shooter he's seen may have lit a bigger fire in RB as he beasted in every aspect last night & shut down CF when he was on him. And Shamet, that kid is going to be good.

As the saying goes "Iron sharpens iron" - there is a ton of talent on this team battling for minutes & that's a great sign imo.

                    • And how did our ladies look, can we expect a 4-peat in the valley and another ncaa run in the tourney. Heard coach adams has a very polished and fast team??

                      • Every year I leave wishing they would have returned to the format used during the Kansas Coliseum year. No pomp and circumstance. Just a formal scrimmage with normal rules and a full clock.

I do not care about dunks or shooting contest. I just want to get an idea of how the new guys play the game. Last night they took multiple timeouts with a running clock and I felt robbed of free basketball!

That could be better answered if the scrimmage guys they played would have pushed them. They looked like they were told to not really push the ladies to hard. They held off a lot on defense. Which I suppose you have to when you are 6 inches taller than any team the ladies will play.

Over all they are quick on the outside and hit most of their open shots. Play looks simplified from last year (to many new players?).

                          • Anyone else catch Baker talking to Coach (who was supposed to not be the 'coach' on how to direct the new guys during plays)?

And this was definately a show scrimmage for the crowd, but Coach still dropped his patentted look on bad plays on the new guys. Looked like a couple of "Oh, you are going to hate tomorrow's practice after jacking that up."

I don't watch enough to even remotely be able to project, but I liked what I saw. There's a little size, definite skill and athleticism. Execution and teamwork is big in the women's game but I could see that group of young ladies being better than anticipated. Nobody is replacing Alex Harden anytime soon but there is talent there.

Kelsey Jacobs couldn't wipe the smile from her face all night. Good for her, she deserved that and then some. Well done Kelsey!

I liked the dunk contest this year. It could have been shorter but seeing all of the young athleticism on the court was fun.
