By the way, it appears we won by 371.
Reminded me of the Gonzaga game where we made the comeback.

Looks like we take on Steph Curry's Davidson squad who just happened to edge out Penn by a single vote. 1 vote, talk about a barn burner.

We have to do a better job of marketing ourselves to the northern plains areas and northwest area of the country. From Wisconsin, to Minnesota, both Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Nevada we have garnered a total of 3 votes.

          A shame.

We are, however, polling strong in North Carolina believe it or not. It could be a statistical anomaly this early in the race with so few precincts reporting.

There may be quite a few bitter Gonzaga fans in the area who enjoyed Davidson's run considerably more than ours.

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

I didn't look at the stats, but the fact that George Mason beat Loyola in this bracket means that either the majority of voters are too young to remember the Loyola run, or they have a much different idea of Cinderella than I do.

Or maybe they've got a bunch of homers stuffing the ballot box, kinda like, y'know, us.

This would sure have been a helluva game if it could really occur. :) I voted for WSU but in my feeblemindedness I had doubts... I can picture it though... Steph Curry and Co vs.Ron Baker & FVV as freshmen along with Cle, Mal.

They are doing a new link for each round, so I updated the OP with the new link for people who lurk or just easier for people to see when clicking on the thread.

Davidson can't carry it's own state? Uuugh.

that 2011 butler was not very good, relatively speaking. connecticut was bad and butler was abysmal in the championship game, maybe the worst ever.. no, definitely the worst championship game ever since they started seeding in 1979.

So if we win this it just means the country has anointed us as the least likely candidate to pull off the end result noted, out of all possible other candidates? Not sure I'm excited about that title, nor do I think it would be that factual.

2008 Davidson and 2013 Wichita State are the two best teams from that bracket. I might throw 2006 George Mason in there. Florida Gulf Coast has gotten by on recency bias and the "Dunk City" stuff.

I don't think that's the intent of the piece on SI's part. Considering the metrics they used in seeding the bracket, it appears their intent is to establish the team that was the most worthy of their deep tournament run.

I do think there are some casual voters who are casting their votes as you fear--based on the team that achieved the most beyond their apparent ability. I hope when the champion is announced that SI clarifies this point and basically declares that team the least deserving of the title Cinderella because it was the most underseeded Cinderella in modern tournament history.
