    No problem.
One last thing, get ready to watch some stupid blue fox run round the arena all night. I have never understood what a blue fox has to do with Sycamores.

    That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

Effingham? They're just being politically correct?

Good morning, boys! Another installment of the Shockers/Sycamores rivalry. Ok, maybe it's only a rivalry on one side, but I do enjoy it when our teams play.

If we can avoid the early knockout punch, which is what you guys are famous for, it could be a decent game. Yes, my Trees are the third place team in the Valley, but realistically, we will have to play a near perfect game to have a chance on Wednesday. What I'm hoping for is that the Shocks get caught looking ahead to Game Day and the UNI battle on Saturday. But your team hasn't exactly shown itself prone to "looking ahead" the last few years.

A bit of info for those of you who might be coming to the game. First off, Hulman Center, which really is a great place to watch a game, even moreso when there are actually people in it, has some backing in the state legislature for a $76.8M renovation and expansion. The expansion would be adding a convention center to it, not increasing seating. Without having seen any plans, I'm betting the the seating will be decreased from 10,200 to about 8,500, with the addition of a limited number of suites and box seating. But, in Indiana, if you're not IU, Purdue, or Ivy Tech, getting any money from the state is far from a sure thing. I just hope if it does happen, they don't ruin Hulman Center's best attribute - there isn't a bad seat in the house. Anyway, just thought I'd throw in that info for you.

As for Terre Haute, please be kind to my hometown. It isn't exactly Omaha (chuckle, chuckle), but it's becoming a pretty cool college town. If you'd like to imbibe a bit before the game, there are several places within walking distance of Hulman Center that will take good care of you. Foremost among that group is the BallyHoo Tavern, which is two blocks north of the arena. Great college bar. There's also The Terminal and The Copper Bar, both one block south - old buildings with lots of atmosphere. Food-wise, hit up J Gumbo's or Chavas Mexican Grill, both on Wabash about a block or two west of the arena. Great food. Too bad you won't be in town for breakfast or lunch or you could hit up George's Cafe on Cherry, awesome food that you can actually feel clogging up your arteries!!!

If you haven't been to Terre Haute ever, or in the last 10 years, the place is very different. The campus is growing into downtown, and there has been a lot of development downtown in the form of restaurants, bars, clubs, and even housing. The University is opening a new housing structure downtown that has commercial space on the street level and four or five floors of apartments for students. It's gonna be nice.

Anyway, way too much info, I guess. I hope those of you who are making the trip have safe travels and go home very disappointed. I doubt the latter will happen, but you never know!

        Sycamores 58
        Shockers 70

I was within two points of the spread in Wichita. I hope I'm wrong here, but eh, I doubt it. We're still too young and not mentally tough enough to withstand the Shockers onslaught.

            They're not sure either...

Yeah, our "mascot" is kinda stupid. But, it's more about the guy in the suit than the suit itself. A couple of years ago, we had a guy who was absolutely fantastic. He would take his surfboard and "surf" across the Hulman Center floor on our male cheerleaders. He knew how to do it. Unfortunately, he's the exception, not the rule. But I still don't think he's as dumb as that gargoyle thing at Bradley...

I feel like I've been told that the idea behind the mascot is this:
The true mascot is the Sycamores and there isn't much you can do with a tree. Because of that, they started saying "Syc 'em, Sycamores! and came up with a wolf/dog to go along with that idea. It's not actually just a cute, blue fox. It's supposed to be a dog, right?

That isn't really that bad. Also, shouldn't his name be Terry Hound? :)

I don't know what the original idea was behind Sycamore Sam. Your recollection sounds as good as any. I wanted them to go with a "Philly Phanatic" sort of thing. But, alas, we got Sam...

                      Cute name, btw...:good:

I like the fox better than the spastic dancing tree Stanford brought to St Louis last year.

Indiana State is 7-1 at home in Valley play this year. There only loss was 51-61 to Northern Iowa in early February. The Sycamores are 3-5 in road Valley games. Obviously a team that plays much better at home than on the road.

The Shocks aren't exactly shrinking violets when it comes to paying on the road though. Only road losses this year were at Utah in OT and at UNI.

I assume the same formula will be effective. Defense and rebounding. Darius and Shaq both need to bounce back with some energy on Wednesday.

Rebounding vs Evansville: Ron and Fred = 23. Darius and Shaq = 4. I think we need a little more from Darius and Shaq on the boards.

Shocks probably need to shoot the ball better than they did against Evansville however. Especially, from the FT line. Hard to believe we will see another combined 1 - 16 shooting effort from Tekele, Darius and Shaq. If we do, then we could be in trouble.

I think I know which thread this was meant for, but I like the idea that Indiana State is too scared to schedule us too.

Even Greg Lansing is a target on SN now!

The Sycamores just took some unfortunate flak for their school using the same initials. ;)
