      12/14 Rankings for WSU
      KenPom - 33
      RPI - 49

WSU's RPI was in the 200s on December 1st and was outside the top 100 until the UNLV win. KenPom has had them top 50 all year long, and has clearly been much better tracking WSU through the early season ups and downs.

If you are putting much stock into the RPI before Christmas, you are doing it wrong.

I found this interesting: Out of the top 50 (and all the way down to 70), only Florida has a tougher non-conference strength of schedule than Wichita State according to KenPom.

If you were looking at RPIFORECAST then you would know that the forecasted RPI was tracking along with KenPom.

Say WSU goes 27-6, wins MVC regular season & tourney.

Narrative on selection sunday will be:
            Excellent Non-conf schedule
Won the tough games when they were healthy
One of hottest teams in the country
Has seniors with tournament experience ready for one last strong run

In that case, WSU is a single digit seed at absolute worst, probably most likely a 4, 5, or 6.

Yes, but only to an extent. On December 1st, while the real RPI was in the 200s, the forecasted RPI was still around 120. Even today, forecasted RPI at that site is 77.

KenPom has never left top 50.

And if the Shockers "run the table" (29-4); what is their seed?

With the way this year is going, I doubt there will be very many teams with less than 4 losses.

If they pulled that off, I could see them as high as a 3 or 4. It just seems like there will be at least 8 teams in front of them regardless, so I think a 1 or 2 is out of the question at this point. Not enough opportunities to prove themselves left on the schedule. It is not helpful that the MVC is borderline as even a top 10 conference this year. Dominating a mediocre conference and getting a 3 seed would not seem all that out of line considering the up and down non-conf.

My personal guess is we would get a 3.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

                      • I would have guessed a 3 seed as well, so it seems we are all on the same page (not that it means the selection committee would be there with us).

                        • If I'm complaining about a 5-6 seed on Selection Sunday this year, that means a lot of good things happened between now and then. As of right now, I'd take the 5/6 seed in a heartbeat.

                          • 3 or 4 for running the table was my guess as well. I would say a 5 or 6 things have still gone very well like 1-2 losses. Not to say there wouldn't be plenty of room to complain if we are a 5 or 6 with 1 more loss but that is what I would expect.

                            • We are all eating from the same bowl of cereal; IMO a 3 seed is the best we can hope for and a 5 or 6 is likely if we dominate the Valley and win in St Louis.

                              • I guess I don't get the optimism wrt seeding. We had an incredible year last year, following a F4 and a 35-1 season, and were rewarded with a 7 seed. No one is looking for an excuse to move WSU up seed lines. Clearly they were looking for an excuse to move them down seed lines. I don't see what could have changed in a year.
