That coaching a 16/1 seed bit is interesting. As far as I can tell, since 64/8 team brackets haven't been around that long, he will be. Now I have to wonder if that was the lowest ranked 16th and I'm still holding out hope for the overall #1
Am I remembering selection Sunday correctly in that they start by announcing the overall #1 and then the other #1s?
Finally I really hope there is a selection Sunday party at Koch again and I hope TV cameras from CBS are there. And that a "suck it Gotleib" sign makes it on tv.

They announce and rank the 4 one seeds as well as announce their regions at the beginning of the broadcast.
Yea its starting to sink in, Number One Seed Wichita State, coming in at 34-0. What a story to tell the grand kids. The 8-9 seeds are always scary, I'm sure we will draw the toughest one though.
Marshall wants to ensure we win the game. Beyond that....
Has any other coach in NCAA tournament history coached both a 16 seed and a 1 seed?
Marshall has seen the bottom side of the boot in that game. There may come a time for making a point in the tournament, but it is not against the 16 seed.
Actually, what would be great about a Wichita State/Coastal Carolina matchup would be that in Marshall's first season at Winthrop, WU was a 16 seed that faced Auburn in the first round. And who was coaching Auburn at the time? Cliff Ellis...who is now the coach at Coastal. So you could have a rematch of two coaches who played a 1/16 game 15 years ago, except they are now coaching the opposite seeds this time. And Auburn won that game 80-41, so I'm sure Marshall wouldn't mind getting a little payback if he went against Ellis again.

Cool point, that would be a very unique juxtaposition.

Now I'm really hoping we draw Coastal Carolina in the first round. That would be an amazing little bit of trivia.
Here I was trying to find out if there has ever been a coach take a team to a #1 seed and a #16 seed, and from what I've looked up, and this brilliant little bit of help, it appears that the first two occurrences could be this year, in opposite directions.
