    WOW
    have you seen him play?
Paul miller had a nice jumper.
    he was an average rebounder.
    no 3pointer
    70something percent free throw shooter.
    Paul Miller didnt block shots.
    Paul Miller didnt get steals.
paul miller had a fadeaway jumper he was good at.
He might have been wearing iron boots.

if you would read, back there. i said in quite a few skill areas garrett has already succeeded Paul Miller as a senior at wsu.

I read what you right, it seems like your stuck in turgeonland.
Paul Miller has a sweet 16 appearance
Paul Miller has a MVP POY award
Paul Miller was recruited as a 2 sport athlete

I truly hope that Garrett will be as good as what you hope him to be, but more realistic expectation would be closer to Ryan Bradley's current skills.

Paul Miller wasn't playing against 6'4" high school kids when he did those things either.

I'm all for realistic expectations, but any comparisons of RB and GS outside of their shared faith and physical size is ridiculous.

          PM vs. RB vs. GS

This thread is amazing to me.

Will Stutz be a superstar next year? Very likely not.

Does he have a chance to be very good? Yes!

Does his high school career compare with Paul Miller? Probably close earlier while he was not competing against the higher level opponents, but his senior year, he was certainly competing against higher level opponents than Paul did in his high school years.

Will he be as good as Paul? That is impossible to say. Paul kept improving every year and was always far better than many fans gave him credit for. By the time he finished his career, he was one of the finest Shocker big men ever and we were all priviledged to have watched him perform.

I for one am hoping that Garrett can show the same type of improvement during his time here and be as good as Paul.

Was Ryan Bradley hyped as much as Garrett out of high school? I certainly never thought so. It seemed like he was considered a project from the beginning and nobody ever thought he would be a big star, but hopefully could develop into a decent role player. Garrett, on the other hand, has shown that he can be a star against higher lever high school talent and has shown some talents that are pretty impressive.

I am thrilled to have Garrett with the Shockers and no, I don't expect him to dominate in the Valley next year. I hope he can help the team next year and help the team more the following year. I truly hope that by his junior year, that he can start really being a force in the Valley and be a major star as a senior.

Reading some of the posts here, I get the feeling that we have some posters who actually hope he fails. I felt like there were posters who felt that way about Paul Miller in the past too.

I guess I just don't understand. Why do some of out posters almost seem to want our recruits to fail?

Don't expect them to become superstars overnight, but I would hope that you don't want them to fail.

There is no problem with being pessimistic fellas, but sheesh.

I'll be the first one to admit I think a lot of this young man when it comes to his skills and expectations. If he turns out to be a bust then you can remember this and feel free to pile on, I can take it.

He is going to be a star in our league, without question as long as he stays healthy. He probably will not lead the league in scoring his first year, as much as I may hope he does, but to compare his skills to R-Brad is really being negative and, forgive me if this offends anyone, stupid.

Garrett is more talented today than Ryan Bradley will ever be (no offense to Ryan).

Guys, I think I've found the perfect middle ground for dealing with Garrett, a solutioun which will satisfy the fanboys and the haters together.

Let's pre-emptively retire his jersey, and cut him!

Seriously, from listening to some of you, it seems like he's the next player to have a banner in the rafters, and he hasn't played a game yet. On the flip side, some of you are just bound and determined to see him fail...

Garrett made more quick, athletic moves in one youtube video than Ryan Bradley will make in his lifetime... Oh, and he happens to be 7ft+.

I'm pretty some of you posters are retarded.

HE WAS COMPARING STUTZ IN HIGH SCHOOL TO PAUL MILLER IN HIGH SCHOOL.

Did Paul miller have a POY and S16 appearance in High School?

Dang some of you people kill me. Nobody saidy Stutz is better than Paul Miller today.

Stutz is going to average more points and rebounds his senior year in High School than Paul did. Paul played in 2A, Stutz in 6A. Paul is about 6'9.5" Stutz is 7'. I recall Pauls hands being terrible his first few years so I'd assume they were in High School as well. I thinks if Fair to say that Stutz at 18 is better than Paul at 18.

Now how that translates into a college career who knows. Again you can only compare whats common and that would be High School. Geez!

Although at one point I believe Rip said he had more abilitly as a HS SR than Paul did as a college SR. He started out talking HS to HS which is fine and I can see where that would come from considering stats and level of play. But later he did mention being better than a 5th year SR Paul Miller which IS ridiculous. If that were the case I'd expect him to be the Valley POY as a FR. That's not going to happen.

I have a lot of hope for Garrett and think he will be a star in this league. He will get a lot of PT next year as a frosh. He will contribute but he won't be the MVP of the team not to mention the league.

Since Paul came up, you can file this in the small world category...

Torrell Martin (Winthrop Star) highlight reel against Polonia (Paul's Team). Includes a block of Paul and a clear charge where he nonetheless posterizes Paul. Paul has put up some nice scores over there, unfortunately this is a highlight reel for Torrell, not Paul.

BTW - Awesome music by M.O.P., even includes an "Eye of the Tiger" sample for ASM.

the highlight clip from the last game of torrell martin. including huge block on jeremy hunt and monster dunk on paul miller.

all I was saying is that.
Garrett is a good free throw shooter, 3pt shooter, hes got quicker feet than P Mill ever did.
                                and a better weak hand.

Paul miller was an incredible player.
i wasnt really comparing Garrett as a whole to paul in college as a senior.
Just saying, that in some ways, Garrett has already succeeded Paul sweet 16 Miller.

                                I mean.
                                Realistically for Paul Miller,
                                without the fadeaway jumper,
                                what would he have been?

I found myself saying to my friend while we watched garrett,
i have seen very few 7 foot plusers that can finish with the weak hand like garrett does.

Does that mean garrett will just show up and dominate, NOT AT ALL...
or that garrett is a better player than Paul was as a College Senior.
                                nah.
                                But,
Garrett has a big step up on where paul was when he arrived.

Ive been impressed with his character.
                                like for example,
the reason Garrett has such a good weak hand, is when he broke his arm as a sophomore.
He spent the whole time, shooting left handed layups.

He can finish just as good with his left hand as his right.

A few things i think Garrett can do better or will have to learn.
Is that right now Garrett isnt having to jump for rebounds so much, he just kinda stands and hops.
He will have to adjust to boxing big guys out, and getting physical on the boards.

He doesnt necessarily have to get bigger, but he will need to be strong...

Coach Jim Heinrich, impressed me, that while garrett plays such dominate basketball in hs...
                                he yells at garrett.

                                these are my thoughs,
and well i felt i should back up what ive said.

also we should keep in mind, that when Ryan was coming out of HS, he wasnt having knee problems like he was when he was here.
I know it doenst make all the difference, but he was so slow and weak.
that was the problem, u cant just shoot hook shots over guys in this league. having that knee problem made that hard for ryan.

                                Thanks Guys,
i hope you all enjoyed those pictures...
