I'm no psychologist, but I attribute these social oddities towards the fact that a good number of KU students/alums/fans are individuals who have an innate need to latch onto something "big time" due to inadequacies in their own lives or psyches. They are unable to make anything substantial out of their own persona, so they have a real need to hitch their wagon up to a bigger cause.
I think a lot of it is also a JoCo thing. I wish Missouri would annex that POS plot of toxic land already.

There are a lot of KU fans that root for WSU and aren't insecure little toolbags. I think many of them reside in the south central part of the state.

      DICK!

Where we finish in the tourney is all we should care about. A top 25 ranking for us should be expected. A top 10 ranking should be met with a nice smile.

It don't mean anything in December.

      See: 2006-2007
I know what you are intending to say, but just as polls aren't EVERYTHING, they aren't NOTHING either. Small accomplishments on the way to a big goal should be enjoyed, not downplayed as worthless.

        2 possibilities:

You love to trash talk and be an online clown, writing stuff that you don't really believe to be true.

You are surprisingly close to fitting the description of the KU fans that you describe.

The amount of apologetics you pull for KU on this site, coupled with a strong posting thrust in relation to bringing WSU down, is dually disconcerning.

I removed all the references to the Quantrill stuff. Let's keep it classy.

It's been many years since I moved to Joco from Wichita, but my experience was quite the opposite. When I lived in Wichita, I could excuse the blissful ignorance of the JoCo KU Alummi. They were like Bubble Boy. Can't blame them for growing up in a bublble. It was the alumni/fans who grew up in Wichita and pretended that WSU did not exist that chapped my butt. But like I said, that was a long time ago.

If only negative things are allowed to be said about KU on this site, I'm sorry, I missed the memo. I root against KU virtually every game of the year, but I refuse to go to the extreme that some on this board do and act like they are Satanic murderers hell-bent on starting a nuclear holocaust. (For those who need clarification, I know I’m exaggerating… just trying to make a point)

As for trying to “bring WSU down”, what are you talking about?

ABC, I simply find it laughable how convinced some people are that "other" fanbases can so easily be lumped together with extremely negative descriptions that, of course (wink wink), could not possibly be applied to a noble fanbase like that of the Shockers.

                    Every fanbase has it's idiots.
Every fanbase has it's good guys.
Sports message boards are often not much better than the trash that you read in the comments section of youtube.
Nitpicking something stupid that a fan of another team said often turns into "look at what all those idiots think".
Taking the general tone of a message board (small group of hardcore contributors) and saying it represents the average non-message board fan is silly.

There may be some cases where fanbases have a tendancy to lean one way or another, but it is a common theme on all message boards to take this over the top and make rediculous claims about "other" fanbases.

This longer post is more what I meant than my short response earlier.

Perhaps I can shed some light to this.

KU has, at specific points of history, been very much against the school now known as Wichita State University. Both KU and K-State vigorously opposed our petition to join the Regents system, and it is believed (and I need to read Uncloistered Halls to get the info on this directly) that KU, in effect, stole what became KU Med School - Wichita from Wichita State. This is above and beyond the general superiority complex that a certain contingent of KU fans (the aforementioned douchebags) have regarding their basketball program.

As a result, there's a certain view of "Us vs. Them;" a view I myself have held until only recently. Now, I cannot, even if I wanted to, defend the KU athletic department for its stubborn refusal to schedule Wichita State for anything other than baseball. I would wonder why we keep scheduling them there, given that KU obviously gets the better part of that deal, but I am reminded that we are not to repay evil for evil. By scheduling KU anyway, we put our money where our mouth is every year and show that we're not afraid to step up when the shoe is on the other foot. That KU wontonly takes advantage of this is their shortcoming, not ours.

But, in my experience, I've found a whole lot of KU fans that cannot be called anything other than decent human beings and good fans. These are people who, while being fully KU fans and alumni, cheered unabashedly for WSU during last year's run. Several of those that I know side completely with us on the scheduling issue, and don't feel threatened at all about a strong WSU program. I refuse to lump in these people with the jackwagons we're all used to dealing with.

I would love for KU, the organization, to answer for the things it has done specifically to interfere with Wichita State. I would also like any Roy Williams-coached team to be forced to play a road game at Koch Arena every year, but that isn't going to happen either. I believe the best path for WSU going forward, is to take care of our own business. If we do that, we will have little to fear from KU or anyone else.

But, it's not an act. Because we all know the chickenhawks are, "Satanic murderers hell-bent on starting a nuclear holocaust."
