Hopefully this is something we can grow accustomed to yet it never gets old.

I also loved the Michigan game Cheese Johnson's freshman year. I was pissing myself that we were playing with them. We had that thing won...turns out Michigan ended up playing for the title against a great Indiana team.
I remember that game as well...Robert Elmore, Robert Gray...and Cheese getting the charge call late in the game. Although we lost it was a great game.

Mason in '06 and LSU in '81 to go the Final Four were both bigger games but I am not sure they were bigger opportunities.

Coach Marshall continues a trend of getting his program into bigger and more important games as time moves forward. From LSU to Georgetown to Michigan State, Creighton to Stanford, Pittsburgh to Iowa to Texas Tech, UNI to Championship Sunday, postseason, UCONN, Virginia, SDSU, LSU, Creighton sweep, NIT Championship, Alabama to UNLV to a Conference Championship, regular visits to the Top25, NCAA, VCU, Iowa, Tennessee, more Championship Sundays, the NCAA and Pittsburgh.....and the #1 team in the country in Gonzaga.

He's lost some but certainly won his share. It's been a constant build and there are no signs of stopping.

I don't know if we win today or not...but I do know that the direction is right, the trend is up, the right man is in charge, and we have more than a puncher's shot on the biggest stage in the country.

        Go Shocks!

"Cheese" Johnson, one the all time best names in Shocker history. My freshman year he was in my Astronomy class, I wanted to yell his name and sling slices of individually wrapped Kraft cheese products all around the lecture hall. I resisted the temptation though.

The Michigan game was good, and while this was not a BIG game another memorable game that year was us beating Louisville in Louisville. It was the last time we played them... That same Shocker team also lost to #4 Cincinnati in Levitt Arena in overtime. It was the first time I saw the Shox play in person.

And of course one of my favorites was a game that didn't count. Shox vs. USSR...

Greg Anthony just tried to talk about our matchup with Gonzaga and Gumbel interrupted him and diverted the conversation to Harvard and Arizona.

Nice stuff from Anthony while it lasted.

Someone should let Mr. Gumbel know that coach Jans played at Gumbel's alma mater, and Coach Heiar coached there for 2 years. Be More. Be Loras! Go Duhawks! :)

Maybe he would give WSU a little more love. lol

The normal punch lines about us: tough, physical, etc. He also said Armstead, Hall and Early would have to have big offensive games for us to succeed.

This game has to be on a Top list somewhere even though we lost. I remember seeing it on television (black/white of course). Cazzie Russell's jumper was a 40 footer.

Dec. 14th 1964, Michigan vs. Wichita State
In a classic #1 vs. #2 battle the top ranked Wolverines defeated #2 Wichita State 87-85. The game was played at Cobo Arena in Detroit. Cazzie Russell drained a jumper with 1 second left to give Michigan the victory.
(6'5) Russell scored 28 points and had 9 rebounds. (6'10) Bill Buntin totaled 22 points and 8 rebounds. Oliver Darden had 18 points and 7 rebounds who became NBAer's. The Shockers had (6'7) Dave Stallworth, and (6'10)Nate Bowman who became NBAer's.
