Unfortunately, I have a bad feeling our RPI falls tonight even with a win. And it could fall 10 spots or more. But we won't know until after WSU is done shellacing MSU tonight. :)

The worst fall is going to happend after we play Miss St in Wichita. At least tonight we will get the benefit of the RPI road game bonus.

I didn't take that into consideration. Thanks. You are right about the home game thing. Of course by then, they might have quite a few more wins in the conference. We will never know.

                  Yep.

The RPI will definitely go down a little with a W tonight, maybe as much as .004. There's a huge gap between us and #16 NCSU, however, and that drop would only eat up about half of the difference.

                  No biggie.

It won't solely due to a WSU win, if one of our OOC wins falls as well then it might. Our SOS might change yes, but our RPI should not dramatically change.

If you follow projected RPIs, they already have this taken into account. RPIForecast has our projected and current RPIs both at 15. If WSU does what is expected, the projected stays at 15 unless other opponents, played or to be played, (and our opponents, opponents) affect it by losing or winning unexpectedly.

I don't really know about the projected and such. I just look at current. If that is the case, I wonder what it would be if MSU wasn't on the schedule at all?

Is that projection only after tonight's games or at the end of the season? If it's end-of-season, there's still a good chance we drop a few spots after tonight.

There are others much more versed on this than I, however, my understanding is it is based on those games scheduled to the end of the season. In other words, the BB and Valley tournament games are not included because the opponent is unknown. Because of all the dynamics within their formulas, even if WSU won/lost games as expected, it is still somewhat of a moving target, but much less than the "Current RPI". Normally, current and projected RPIs are not the same. WSU's being the same at this stage of the season is somewhat unusual.

At the end of tonight's games, tomorrow's RPI (listed sometime after noon) could change based on opponents, opponents of opponents, and so on, and their departure from expected wins/loses.

Current RPIs change from day to day even if there is no departure from expectations.

                              • Don't get too caught up with RPIForecast until we get to the last week or two of the regular season. Those ranges fluctuate in a huge, huge way until you get to less than five games remaining for the exact reason @ShockTalk: mentioned: unexpected wins and losses.
