Your path might work too (see Drake), but I'd rather us think big and try to go after the money with a very targeted goal vs right now it just feels like its "hey give us money and we might do something good with it"

Cohen, Thompson and Smithson deserved 3rd years but Brown didn't. Only a troglodyte would think that was a smart move while not considering the serious ramifications of a misstep. Do you comprehend, cave dweller? Oh, wait...

I’m sorry I offended you Mrs. Brown.

Why don’t you go suck a Valley game off, you imbecile.

I would also rather see contracts with a much lower base amount, and then very lucrative performance bonuses.
4 year contracts used to be necessary for a coach to recruit a kid, because kids wanted to know they were signing with a coach that would be there for a while. But that's before kids had the ability to transfer without repercussions.
But now that kids can jump anytime anywhere without sitting out a year, I believe a coach only needs a 1 or 2 year contract as well. But I agree with your contract if they are long term.

Yes. Different doesn't mean better. Tell me one accomplishment he has had with this team?

Back to the direct question. IYHO, do you believe Acy would do worse? I, for one, don't see how it gets worse than last night. Possible? Of course, but HIGHLY unlikely. Wonder how many on here would be ready to roll the dice? Having said that I think PM is a good person but a poor coach.

Acy has never been a head coach. He's only been an assistant coach for 1.5 years. I would not expect better results because the only coach he's coached under is Paul Mills. He's going to continue to do the same things Mills has done but with a likely disgruntled team. So yes I would expect things to get worse. We are bad, but we aren't bad bad. Just really bad for WSU standards.

I've been VERY critical of Mills obviously. But I couldn't get behind that move. Pulling the plug on Brown after 2 years was understandable but not ideal mainly because we didn't have a plan. Mills was a long shot hire, but at least had experience. Pulling the plug on Mills after 1.5 seasons only to replace him with a person that has only coached at ANY level for 1.5 years .. zero of those being a head coach would be program suicide. If he doesn't work out, we definitely wont get another good coach here for a long time.

If we pull the plug on Mills before year 3, it HAS to be a pre-determined experienced home run coach that an outsider can look at and be like "ok, that makes sense". Not a fire and pray, not a kick out and promote an assistant.

              • What's really troubling is WSU is about to lose several players from the most experienced team in the Country. Who's taking their place?

                Comment

                • What I was suggesting is that both men keep their current contracts but allowing Acy to do the actual coaching for awhile. If it doesn't work out better - hard to imagine - then PM can step back in. If it did work out well PM could claim partial credit by claiming he realized he needed to step back and reevaluate his own coaching.

Several? Isn't it more like 9? That's several cubed.

Hopefully some players that are less experienced at doing whatever it is we are doing right now.

I don't see any way in the world that can happen. That just doesn't happen in the real world in basically any job, let alone a coaching job. Also Acy isn't even "next in line" from a coaching standpoint. Both Paulino and Cleveland would likely be above Acy when it comes to "next up" as they have actual experience outside of this staff.

“You’ve spent the last seven years as a head coach but we’d like you to willingly relinquish your authority over this program for just a little while.”

Yeah, I’m pretty sure an insignificant employee at a small company would be beyond insulted by that proposal, let alone someone who has the ego of a Division-1 college basketball coach.

My guess is we have to wait for the transfer portal players to emerge

There is no such thing as recruiting. You now rent a players for a year.
