They should start retroactively taking away our wins with how we’ve been playing

Looking at the remaining schedule, there a few maybe wins (UTSA, Rice, Tulsa) but with this crew and their mind set, that's about it.
Hoping they may have a surprise or two in them, ECU or Temple? but other than that, at this point will be happy with 10 D1 wins.

HCPM left with IB's holdovers and little time to grab anyone else who had not committed elsewhere, It is what it is.

Just hang in there and keep reminding one that this same school once had Scott Thompson as the head coach and I still vividly remember those lean years n the 90's.

Recruit, recruit and then recruit some more. The sobering part is Bell will be back next year as a SR. Please tell me he will only get 10-12 minutes per game as a part time player!

          That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

I'm guessing 2 league victories (and that's me being somewhat optimistic)

The sobering part to me is that potentially the entire roster could be back except for Dalen Ridgnal and somebody named Jacob Germany. On the other hand, Kenny Pohto and Isaac Abidde may very well decide to move on. And, if all transfer restrictions are eliminated you might see a mass exodus. Maybe that's bad, and maybe it's not.

Alos, if all transfer restrictions are eliminated, and considering a players academic welfare is not really a factor to be concerned with, a Coach would have no qualms about cutting players loose if he thinks he can upgrade his roster.

Now how the fans will adapt to this new reality is another question. There will no doubt be some (maybe many) who will be turned off by the musical chairs and gun-for-hire wild west environment that college sports have morphed into. I think am probably among those who will lose at least some level of interest.

I want to like this post, but I can't.

The college sports landscape is changing in such a way that I don't think we will see any players stay at WSU more than 2 years. They will either be let go or move on to greener pastures.

A system coach can't properly recruit "his" players in that environment. You need a coach who can adapt to his personnel every year. Mills clearly isn't that type of coach. By the time we can get that type of coach WSU will be one of several perennial conference doormats.

The future just looks incredibly bleak from my vantage point. I don't know that I want to continue investing emotional capital into something that used to bring me joy, but now only delivers heartache, with no hope in sight.

It's safe to say this is the worst I have ever felt about Shocker basketball. I used to be able to watch a game like today hoping to see something posititve from a young player or two, to tide me over to the next game. One, we don't play any young players. Two, if we did I have no reason to believe they would be here next year.

                    I certainly won't.

I will listen if someone wants to pick up that torch.
Dead horse well and truly beaten, but yes I believe the players are better off without Gregg in his end stage malignancy. It’s unfortunate that we had that barnacle of an AD who couldn’t begin to exercise any control or discipline on the Marshall clan before it went terminal.

In picking at Shockm I looked over resumes of our coaches and I found it interesting that eras fans think of as golden were really just short bursts of excellence. Ralph Miller and Gene Smithson were not setting the world on fire year after year. Hard to say if Turgeon would have turned it around had he stayed. Regardless, Marshall’s record stands out. He is the best coach results wise WSU has had. Unlikely to be repeated in the current landscape.

The disastrous settlement with Gregg, ridiculous contract with IB, clearly unvetted hire of Eric Wedge, all compounded by covid lockdowns, realignment upheaval, and NIL have left the Athletic Department holding the weakest hand I’ve seen.

                      Pass the stick.

Turg built the program on Randy, Jamar, and Rob (Paul was still fifi). He went to the sweet 16 with the next group of Matt, Sean, PJ, and Paul (fresh off a big man camp). Sean transferred, but Turg had Denzel Bowles coming in. They would have torn the valley a new poo hole. The only real question was if he could have recovered from losing Tad, which with his KU connections I think he could have.

Gregg built the program before adding Ron and Fred, but they took it to the next level. Had he thrown Shaq off the team after SIU, I doubt he would have gone to the lengths he did to get effort out of the players who came after Ron and Fred and Evan. Keeping Shaq, letting him and Landry take control lost that team, and a mass exodus led him to the frantic reload with incomparable players. Team chemistry post Fred was the real issue, and I think Gregg would have turned that around. I think the team IBs first year would have been the start of the new era.

Clearly all my opinion and it doesn’t really change your conclusion. Should Mills not pan out, I think the program is worse off and we will be truly left in the dust of the next realignment.

Somewhat related and just dawned on me, is the ICT middle class to upper-middle class job market dying?

Don't look now but on Wednesday evening we will be looking for our first win in 40 days. Chew on that.

Those who thought the last 3 years was Cohen redux are about to get a healthy, and much needed, perspective (in case you haven't yet)...

We once went 351 days between LOSSES. 40 days of no losses was almost commonplace.

When I am agreeing with ShockingButTrue things have definitely taken a turn for the bizarre, but here I am. We should all either buy lottery tickets or start digging those bunkers.

Edit: to be clear, I am not saying that Mills tenure is going to end in ignominy. I am agreeing that our record certainly this year will have much in common with our record in the Cohen and pre-Turgeon era.

Edit Two: I think we all know there is no clearer kiss of death to a coach than an announcement that the coach has the full support of the Athletic Director and President. Let’s hope we don’t hear one of those this week.
