My girlfriend and 2 kids are making me stay here.

Ive been ready to leave to Kansas City forever.

I say KC because I have quite a few friends that way and makes it so much easier.

I love this town. I can make almost as much money in my industry as I could at most any other place and yet pay 1/2 the price to live. There is plenty to do in this town with the opportunity to watch any major sporting event within 3 a hour drive other then hockey (only bad part) and NBA (doesn't bother me). It's a great town for the fine arts in the midwest with a lot of good bands and a great downtown now.

Also (not directed at Awesome, his case is different) I've never found money a good reason to not being able to leave a place. I came here with nothing and have survived just fine. I know tons of other people who have done the same to towns and big cities all across the US. It comes down to personal choices and how you want to live.

Ok.. and ours is 2 years away. Before 2003, Omaha's largest venue was their civic auditorium which held around 9500. You act like Omaha has always had a big arena. Only for the last 4 years.. Before that Wichita has a bigger arena than Omaha.

They are embedded here too. Sure, the Y doesn't have the best outdoor parks, but they're there. What does Omaha have? I've never heard of their major outdoor waterpark. I will say it is a shame that we don't have a big waterpark though. Life without Fantasea sucks.

They're bigger, but not by much. And is bigger always better? Albuquerque, NM has about 800,000 people and is bigger than a lot of cities. Do you think that place is better? Ya, um, hell no.

Wichita is no rose among dandelions, but it certainly isn't behind Omaha. I agree that there are a few slow Wichita minds out there, but that doesn't mean we all are. Wichita is a couple years behind on the arena and that's about it. It's not the best place to live, but to act like Omaha, freaking Nebraska is any better is beyond ludicrous.

I think your opinion about a city differs with what age bracket you are in, and with your interests.

People here, for the most part, are friendly and nice.

A big plus in my books, it only takes 20 minutes to drive anywhere in town.

Unless you have experienced the long and difficult commutes of other cities, you just don't realize the irritations it will bring into your life, and affect your whole general attitude. Wichita is an easy city to drive through or around.

The nightlife thing changes as you age. As long as it is decent, and you have various things to attend, it is all good. Most people that live in a city never even seek out what the city does offer very much, they go elsewhere for it.

I prefer the west side of town, it just has a good feel to it. The east side is the cosmopolitan and yuppie side.

I haven't been to a mall here for years and years to just shop.

I would like Wichita to grow up some, but not to the point that it becomes a
'monster' to live in, because the conveniences afforded to you in your daily life is a very important factor for most families.

And other cities have just as many or more orange cones as we do, trust me on that.

But, we do have a myopic city council that limits every great idea that comes along or compromises it down to where it just becomes 'middle of the road', and for that reason, we will never be known as a 'cutting edge' city, or a city on the move.

Wow just wow…ever get out of ICT much? Kid you have no idea what construction and traffic is like.

It’s kind of laughable the ones who repeatedly say Wichita sucks and can’t wait to catch the first train out of town can’t even afford to do it. Do you realize how cheap Wichita is and how much value you get for the standard of living?

Yeah I think the best course of action is to get out of town and live a little. Go experience 3-4 hour traffic delays. Go look at open houses with $500,000 fixer-uppers in declining neighborhoods. Go enjoy adult arcades and waterslides until you graduate to something above and beyond.

Construction? Try living in KC (near Olathe). I only lived there for 9 months and I was already tired of the construction. It seems like it never ends. But at least Olathe has a Bass Pro.

This discussion of which is the better city ia laughable. I have lived in a variety of different cities in my lifetime including (in California) Yuba City pop around 10,000 at the time, San Jose, Sacramento, Santa Rosa and Los Angeles as well as Wichita. I currently live in Bakersfield, California which is similiar in size to Wichita and is among the most affordable cities in California. I can honestly say that I found things to like and dislike about all of them. The bottom line is that each of them is as good or bad as you want to make them.

You must be a young buck. The Kellog project had to be done, the city was growing too fast and the congestion was just awful. You'll appreciate the end result once it has been completed. Be patient youngling.

A sports arena downtown, even if you believe it will stink, sure beats driving to the Kansas Coliseum in Hickville. Every major city surrounding Wichita is putting up an arena or has one, Wichita needed this to keep up with the Jones' so-to-speak. Tulsa, KC, Omaha, OKC, Little Rock, it would have been sad and just inexuseable not to have one.

The only knock on Wichita is that I feel it is a very conservative city. No offense to anyone, but I can't wait until the X and Y Generation begin to take over political positions in this city. This city needs a dose of progressive thinking.

And we will never get any good sporting events? Need I remind you that we have a Top 25 baseball team to watch and a great basketball program on the rise (hopefully). I know that's not what you meant, I just had to say it. :D

lol, KC Shox, although most people hate your guts on here, I actually like your opinions. I'm still fairly young, I won't tell you my real age, but I agree with a lot of your points. Yes, Kellogg will be better.. if they ever get it done, my complaint is that it has taken over 10 years to complete already.

As for the Coliseum, no arguments there. I just don't think this new sports arena will do as good as people think.

And of course you know what I mean by good sporting events. Sure, we've got WNBA exhibitions, talk of NBA exhibitions, we have a great baseball program, but there is one thing I want to see that I don't think we'll ever see again.. The NCAA Tournament in Wichita

I especially agree with the conservative city bit. We have the most backwards-thinking people running this city... and we can't seem to vote 'em out.

Care to name a few reasons on why you think that, instead of just saying "just because"?

I think it will do and give more than what the Coliseum has to offer.

Uh.. when the arena gets built, it will come. Again, can you name me a few reasons why you think this. You're just rambling off things left and right with no legitimacy behind it to back it up.

The Coliseum hosted in the NCAA's in 1994. If we could get it then with that POS, then we won't have a problem with a state-of-the-art arena, assuming the stupid city leaders don't eff anything up... (like they already have by making it only seat 15,000)

Because with Wichita's luck, by the time they get it done, the NCAA will probably raise the minimum seating to 17-18,000, and we will be left out in the cold.

Can we sue the City Council for having one vision for the City's future, but approving a much downsized version when it comes time for approval?

And if a public official has a majority of constiuents wanting to go a certain way on an issue, isn't that official obligated to follow the majority?
