If this brings more young folks to Shocker Madness, that's good. Will those same folks return to a game? Hopefully.....

      Maybe he'll bring pole dancers?
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

This may be a dumb question but is Tech N9ne going to be too much for younger kids???

Didn't BS ask about Snoop Dog and was assured that it would be fine. I'm sure there have been reassurances made by the artist and or his management but then again stuff happens. Go Shocks.
PS the Wife did not act overly enthused about the after events but I think I will hang around to see for myself. After all us old folks aren't supposed to embrace change but it may be enlightening.

At least they are trying to liven this up. A scrimmage alone doesn't cut it. This has something for everyone. If you don't like all of the other festivities going on at Shocker Madness then just come for the scrimmage and leave after.
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

              Extended scrimmages sounds great.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I expect that a significant portion of the crowd will do just that. A lot of Shocker fans leave regular season games to beat the traffic plus with all they have scheduled this could be a rather long evening and while the post scrimmage entertainment may be top notch in its niche, it is a niche of somewhat limited appeal. Right now my plan is to hang round for the rapper, but if it runs too long I will probably bug out. Probably, more respectful to leave before he starts than to leave during his performance.

They had entertainment to close out the inaugural Black and Gold Gala in August and it was reported that a good portion of those attendees skipped that. However, that was a different slice of the fan base who paid $200 per pop to attend. Shocker Madness will be attended more by the hoi polloi such as myself.

Being a general admission event with no reserved seating and no reserved parking will probalbly limit the interest of a good part of the higher end SASO members.

A valid point that you make 1972Shocker. Hoping that it will mean more than a 20 minute continuous clock. With the influx of so many new players, my curiosity and entertainment requests goes beyond the status quo.

I vote for the stoppage of the clock as well. But now that I think type that, the team is usually coming off a practice before the scrimmage. I'd almost rather sit through a good half hour or hour of intense practice than a sloppy scrimmage.

This is awesome. I'll probably change my weekend plans to make sure I can make it now.
I'm not a huge Tech N9ne fan, but he's had significant hits over the last decade and a half. He also has a pretty large fanbase in the area as he's from KC, so I figure that alone will pump up the attendance a considerable amount.

If there is one video to introduce people to his music, I'd suggest the NPR Tiny Desk Concert:

I think the first hit I remember, and the song that pretty much introduced him to me was Slacker. I believe that was back in the 2000-2003 range.

He's also done songs for the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. Red Kingdom is still played quite a bit amongst the Chiefs faithful and has been used going in and out of commercial breaks at times during games. He performed at the Super Bowl celebration as well. I have no idea what his national recognition is these days, but in this area he's still a pretty big deal.

I will admit that I'm even more likely to attend now because of this overall effort by the administration and the chance to see Tech N9ne is kind of a can't miss opportunity. I know he's played Wichita in the past and will again I'm sure, but I don't generally attend a lot of concerts and don't know if I could get myself to go to a normal show of his or not.

Gonna get a lot of people coming for the "free concert" and just happen to see WSU basketball.

That's possible. Hopefully, most of them will actually show up for Shocker Madness and not just show up late for the Tech N9ne performance.

But I definitely like the effort to improve the Shocker Madness experience.

I can't stand "gangsta rap", which is so bad it generally turns me off almost totally to the rest of hip-hop, but this video and music is pretty lighthearted and kinda fun. It actually feels like a modern update to old-school lighthearted hip-hop. If that's representative of his overall body of work, I can see it being fun for the younger generations and can even image pogo tapping his feet to it.
