Will not be surprised to see him end up down south somewhere. A Southland conference or SunBelt league type of program.
Good guy, but wrong one for this program and a place that expects to be dancing each and every year.

    That is all.
I heard Texas Arlington was interested in him at one time.

I'll give him some credit for noticeable improvement over the course of this season but, for me, the team had to beat Tulane and play Memphis close. That would have had even me on the fence. I wish they could construct his contract in a way he could earn his $$$ as an ass't going forward but that is highly unlikely. Whether he stays or not won't determine my loyalty to the program. With the advent of the portal and NIL I'm afraid we will never compete with the big names again, nevertheless, I'll be watching
Gregg Marshall lost to Drake twice in his first year, so losing to Drake happens.

By the way, has anyone compared the won/lost records, SOS, etc. of Marshall and Brown for their first 3 years at WSU?

I don’t disagree, though I think IB winning the conference kinda put Boatright in a difficult spot. And I’m not defending DB - guy was an asshat - but when your interim wins the league in his first year, we’d have looked like morons not to hire him at that time. Especially when you throw in guys like FVV and Ron voicing their support for him.

IMO I agree with this take. The part where FADDB failed was the way the contract was structured for a first time head coach.

At the same time a national search should have been done back then, I believe this is the right move. Just need to hold onto players.
Walton - a Must. Solid player.
Pierre - If someone can contain to play within himself and the team system, he would be nice to have back.
Rodgers - We've never seen him play, but he has a history of successful shooting in the NCAA, so that's always great to have.
Pohto - Kid has potential, but damnit quit playing like you're 6' and play like the 7'er you are!!
Ballard - Looks amazing coming off the bus, but if that is all his scholarship is going to be used for, is that worth it?

Everyone else, could (and should) test the portal waters.

I believe that public universities are required to publish that. Doesn't mean ADKS hasn't already negotiated a deal with a new coach

Throw in the pandemic, new transfer legislation, total lack of NIL support, and IB had a tough situation. Sad part is they’d obviously & finally starting showing legit signs of improvement recently. But it’s a results based profession, and I don’t blame Saal for making the move right now. Good opportunity to start fresh.

                      I'm not against national searches.

Some former, out of work, ADs however....

If they would have done a national search and THEN concluded to hire IB, that would have been okay.

To just go with the "well, we had no choice but to hire him" strategy is what I had an issue with.

Well, Saal absolutely needs to deliver on the next coach. If we struggle to regain our footing, say with a couple losing seasons and dwindling attendances, we'll have a hard time ever returning to national relevance.

Failure is that dire. We'd be deep in the red paying three coaches with the lowest fan engagement in decades, in a near MVC-level conference that won't give us much help. We could be talking about an end to the program at that point.

And making matters worse, we have cards stacked against us in this search. We need to succeed with the money we have, with the circumstances we've created, and in the conference we are in. We need to somehow punch above our weight class.

Well, this is gonna cost fans a lot of $$$. As evident by this line in the release:

"Please join us on this critically important and transformative new journey; a
journey that will require en hanced investment to expand and align resources to expectations."

But, it needed to happen. And if Saal makes a good hire I have no doubt most fans won't mind the increase in costs.

Kudos to Saal. The man is following through so far....
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

You can't believe that either. No active coach would admit such a thing without meeting and announcing it to their players first.
We will just have to wait it out.
