Tiers are alphabetical, so don't take any stock in the placement within the group.

There were 7 tiers of college basketball head coaches with prior experience...so for example, Greg Heiar was not on this list.

Tier 1 (8 coaches): "If you know, you know."

Tier 2A (10): On the cusp. Give them a natty and they probably bump to Tier 1

Tier 2B (2): Boeheim and Huggins. Couldn't reach consensus on where to put them

Tier 3 (22): "Solid, reliable and consistent, or entirely unproven; very good, if not great or potentially great but not yet."

Tier 4 (35): "The mushiest of all tiers, is probably the best way to say it. Ascendant coaches with yeah-buts. Winners with nevertheless mixed reviews."

Tier 5 (34): "When you start to dip this low and you have a Power 6 gig, the question is why? What are you doing here? The answer is time, just measured differently."

Tier 6 (33): "Respected coaching minds. Good — and sometimes great — results in jobs where success isn’t built-in. But it’s been a slog in recent seasons. And several of them might have to win, and win big, to remain at their current school beyond 2022-23."

Tier 7 (11): "Not a whole lot of explaining necessary here. If you find yourself in Tier 7, it’s likely because you haven’t produced or impressed consistently, over a long or short period of time, and no one The Athletic spoke to rushed to your defense."

The Athletic article about coaching tiers included all “power 6” school coaches plus coaches who have reached the NCAA tournament or won the regular season of their league in the last 3 seasons. This includes about 150 coaches so tier 7 puts Brown in the bottom 11 of the coaches ranked in these tiers. Make of it what you will.

Aah. That helps out a lot. So while numbers aren’t important at some point, IB is in the Top 150, or tied with 75, 100, 150 or more for the bottom coaches, depending on the writer’s perspective. There are at least 144 in front of him, and probably/maybe more.

It's actually worse. Out of P5 and coaches that have been around for any length he's in the worst category of tiers.

Tell me IB didn't really say that. Please. For the love of all that is holy.

Oh, also, I almost spit out my coffee when I read the quote on Henry. I was just scanning through and I thought IB's comment was "Being a white guy..." Ha! Missed that one.

I didn't hear him say it, but they've credited him with it

Oh, I know. You're good. You are just passing along the message.

I think that's just one of those ridiculous coach-speak things. Every coach will say that he thinks his non-conference schedule is tough. I mean, no one is going to say, "We scheduled soft because I want to rack up wins and protect my job." I just wish coaches wouldn't blow sunshine up our backsides. We aren't dumb. Sure, there are a couple games that will be difficult, but that doesn't make it the toughest non-conference schedules you've had.

It may be a very tough non-con schedule. How many buy games do we lose? My bet is at least 1 and possibly more.
