Cincy was the only conference opponent on that list.

First NET of the season out. Largely irrelevant for us .. but surprisingly we have the 4th best NET in the AAC .. and by a large gap to 5th.

                1 - Houston
                38 - Memphis
                95 - UCF
                99 - WSU
                151 - Cincy
                155 - Temple
                189 - Tulane
                202 - ECU
                229 - USF
                224 - Tulsa
                282 - SMU

It's early, but the newbies aren't looking so bad as a whole. We knew Rice and UTSA would have work to do, but the other four are off to a respectable start.

Agreed. I'm not putting any sort of time frame on it, but they're committed.

Florida Atlantic has actually surprised me. I know when I looked into them last year they were better than I expected, but nowhere near where they're at right now.

Also not putting too much into these first NET rankings. It's just a snapshot and it's early. But they do seem to show that the additions aren't as bad as some try to make them out to be. At least a couple of them could really capitalize on the upgrade in conference and help keep the AAC where it generally is.

Because I'm bored today, here's how next years conference is sitting in NET as of the 15th.

                          234 - Tulsa
                          286 - SMU
                          292 - UTSA

                          Departing teams
                          2 - Houston
                          58 - UCF
                          141 - Cincinnati

Teams some of us wanted to look at during expansion

                          12 - Utah State
                          20 - Southern Miss
                          24 - New Mexico
                          33 - Kent State
                          36 - Boise State
                          37 - UNLV
                          41 - San Diego State
                          60 - Nevada
                          62 - Marshall
                          104 - Colorado State
                          106 - Middle Tennessee
                          145 - Old Dominion
                          154 - Toledo
                          178 - Air Force
                          185 - Western Kentucky
                          189 - Ohio
                          195 - Louisiana Tech
                          205 - Fresno State
                          212 - Buffalo
                          219 - Wyoming
                          235 - App State
                          254 - Coastal Carolina
                          291 - Georgia State

I know the AAC tried to pull some MWC schools in and we all agree that would have been best case scenario. Putting them in is just a what could have been sort of thing.

The rest are from CUSA, Sun Belt and MAC which were the more likely options we had after the MWC expansion got shut down.

And this is only a snapshot so take it for what it's worth.

Hilarious that the CUSA additions might actually keep us afloat in the rankings after most of us bitched about them, me included.

Isn't it sad to think back to the days where I would see that this thread title was updated and click on it with anticipation of seeing where the Shockers were ranked that week? Now we can barely tread .500.

Thinking back...we wouldn't sniff a mid major poll these days. I remember back in the early MT era when we started showing up in those polls. And then eventually we got pissed of the label.
