Official WSU vs VCU Game Thread - NCAA Tournament Second Round

Flat out got out coached. VCU was prepared...WSU was not. HCGM cannot get it done in the NCAA Tournament. Shaka not a class act...Marshall isn't the best act either. Believe me, he's no saint in the coaching world.

I'm not mad we lost, we got beat fair and square. But I'm way PO'd watching Shaka Smart flippantly extend his hand out for the handshake with GM and speed past by him like we're wasting his precious time. GM was looking at Shaka the entire time, slowed down, extended his hand and ended up watching the little smurf breeze past by him. Anyone else catch that, or is my beer goggles kicking in?

I noticed that too. Not cool. It will catch up wtih him.

Just like Ill State, this was an odd game, way out of what we normally experience, yet had a very good chance to win.

I sure got the impression coach did not prepare the team for this game. The after game comments did not sound like he had any remorse for the loss.
I want to remind everyone he has one (1) win in the NCAA tournament and a very poor record in the MVC tourney. His teams seems to not handle pressure.

Complete quote from Garret on how he felt after the game:

"I guess apologetic... cause the loss is my fault. You know, we had the right gameplan, guards took care of the ball. We got the ball down low, I got right to the rim...... couldn't make a shot."

It was on FOX News at 9 in the sports. Leon Leibl is on there.

David Kyles stood up for Garrett, saying something to the fact that the loss was on everyone and they were all sorry about it.

They shouldn't be sorry for anything. They had a fantastic season and the draw just didn't work out for them in the end.

We also had very few close down-to-the wire games this year, unlike the weekly cardiac arrests of 2006. I strangely wonder if we would have benefited from a few more close game situations. Not that I minded beating the living tar out of people, of course.

VCU uniforms look great. That's a good team, and I'll root for them the rest of the way, if I watch. I don't care much for Shaka. HCGM took a shot at the officiating at halftime on national TV. That is a bit tiresome, right or wrong. TM tried to put the team on his back and shot the ball on 4 consecutive posessions. Made one. Kyles was scorching hot at that time. Hall had a helluva game, but his legs were gone at the end. He let that guy get waaay too gooda shot from the corner. Stutz had a great year. Wow, he missed a lot of bunnies tonight. Yeah, we got outcoached. For some, that will not help HCGM's resume; for some, prolly won't matter.

My point to all this is we have a 5 seed and we get totally embarrassed on national TV by a 12 seed. We were not prepared. We looked satisfied just to be there. We cannot blame Elgin, MVC, or officials.

Only thing I noticed in regards to the Smart/Marshall exchange at the end of the game was Marshall turning towards Smart and attempting to say something with Smart swiftly passing by with no turn of the head. I have no idea what it was all about, but i saw it as somewhat odd.

I'm tired of the GM being out-coached rant. GM is not executing the plays/sets he designs. GM can't predict how VCU's defense will rotate to the ball and swarm their players. In-game dynamics are chaotic and unpredictable. It takes one Shox player to miss an assignment, misread the defense/offense and that's all it takes for VCU to accomplish their goal.
