The most impactful position in the game. For a long time we had an unbelievable run of grade-A PG recruits and transfers that made this program run. What the hell has happened since FVV?

I agree that we got a little spoiled watching FVV for 4 years (and that first year we had another heck of a PG in Malcolm). I am very high on CP and was encouraged by his play in the 1st half of the NT game. He has deferred so much from a scoring standpoint but it was obvious the coaches decided they had an advantage if they got the ball to him in iso. He made it look pretty easy scoring in those situations and I hope he looks to score more. We need it desperately and I think he is more than capable to score more. If he does, add that to taking care of the ball, good on and off ball D, and rebounding like Buck Williams and you have a heck of a PG.

Sherfield is looking better each year but wasn't ready as a freshman and wouldn't accept that. I like CP. He is a pass first pg and takes care of the ball. If we had a reliable scorer or 2 to dish to he would excel in my opinion. But I agree if you're saying we haven't had another FVV.
Don't get hung up on FVV reference. Think more in line with Ragland, Hannah and Armstead. Heck I'd love to have Brauer. Just seems like for a long while we got spoiled with great to efficient PGs. I've been pretty underwhelmed in that department going on 5 years or so.

We have had really good, high IQ point guards that were held to a high standard by the coaching staff. We have been spoiled by that.
Randy Burns
Matt Braeuer
Clevin Hannah
Joe Ragland
Malcom Armstead
Fred VanVleet
Diashon Smith/Frankamp
Samajae Haynes-Jones/Frankamp
Ricky Torres
Jamarius Burton
Alterique Gilbert
Craig Porter
We went from multiple year guys to one hit wonders. Once higher level recruits started coming available, Gregg started reaching and whiffed because they just don’t have the same drive and desire. Look at this team compared to south Alabama. USA does it the way we used to. We look like a Power Conference flunky instead of a team that thumps and plays smart.

Currently, his line with UMass as a senior: 33.5 mpg / 16.8 ppg / 3.1 rpg / 5.4 apg / 1.9 TOpg / 1.5 steals pg / 47.9% FG / 40.4% 3pt / 84.6% FT
You could lower all of those stats some and I would have been a very happy camper.

Don’t think PG would be much of a discussion if the rest of the team didn’t have such offensive deficiencies. Porter is probably one of the best guard defenders in the country (leader in BLK% for players 6’2 & under) & has a higher DREB% than Mo did last year. Think he’s a huge reason why the defense & rebounding has improved over last season, but I feel the fact that the others are having a hard time scoring hurts Porter’s overall value to the team since he isn’t a scorer or shooter himself.
