    By Gary Parrish

"It's opening day and that means the CBS Sports daily basketball rankings are making their debut for the 2021-22 regular season...

Tuesday is going to be a blast — as will every day between now and the night we crown another national champion. Per usual, the CBS Sports Top 25 And 1 will once again update every morning between now and Selection Sunday. Gonzaga is starting the season at No. 1.

6 MICHIGAN - The return of Hunter Dickinson and Eli Brooks provides Juwan Howard with high-level experienced pieces to pair with the nation's second-ranked recruiting class that features five-star prospect Caleb Houstan, five-star prospect Moussa Diabate and reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year DeVante' Jones. Michigan opens the season Wednesday against Buffalo.

7 MEMPHIS - Penny Hardaway enrolled the the nation's top-ranked recruiting class for the second time in three years thanks to late commitments from five-star prospects Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren. Memphis opens the season Tuesday against Tennessee Tech.

13 HOUSTON - Texas Tech transfer Kyler Edwards is joining a core of Marcus Sasser and Tramon Mark that should allow the Cougars to compete for a third straight trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Houston opens the season Tuesday against Hofstra...."

I believe the rank is still last year. Colgate and Loyola wouldn't be up there again

Thought we’d jump a bit higher after the OSU game.

Our actual AdjEM actually did move quite a bit, there was just a lot of gap between us at the teams in front of us so the big AdjEM jump only resulted in a slight ranking jump (but we are now in striking range of a bunch of teams we were well behind before this game). Also, as Michigan's rank can attest, we are still early enough in the season that Kenpom is biased towards the preseason rankings which will decline as the season goes on and be phased out entirely by late January.

The AdjEM gap between 46 and 54 (WSU) is 1.09. The gap between 54 and 55 is 1.29. So we're closer to 46th than 55th. Other than the top 10 and bottom 10 it's the largest gap between two consecutive teams in KenPom's ratings.

WSU (54) Still not as good as OSU (45) even after beating them by 9.

Too bad there's no metric for having the will and finding a way to win the game. Any rating system that says OSU is better than WSU after WSU beat them on their court has some serious flaws.

I guess since the Shox were not as efficient in beating OSU as OSU has been in winning their games that OSU is the better team.

                          No…

Last year’s ratings are still built into a lot of ratings, including KenPom’s.

And just because you beat somebody, that doesn’t mean you automatically jump them. It’s an overall ratings system. That’s like saying when ECU beat Houston last year, that ECU should be in front of Houston in the ratings.

Lol - Possibly never - Lol. With all those 4 and 5 star players...their losses don't affect their rankings. Apparently it's all about their potential (almost P-5ish treatment???) Lol

I want them ranked high, even ridiculously so. That only adds to our resume and ranking if and when we beat them.
